Default Fixing wiper door threads

As with many I have a wiper door with mucked up threads...made worse someone tried to drill out busted bolts and went into the wiper door metal...I got it free any thoughts on trying to fix it

Looks good, mines more mucked up, but some of the original bolt is there, it was free I got nothing to loose with it,

If you can get the remaining piece of the original bolt out, you might be able to over drill and tap the hole and install an aluminum bolt with permanent lock-tite, then re-drill the 10/24 threads for the original shoulder bolt.

Bats, I know that you are "frugal", but the angle of the bolts is very precise. I think that Zip and Paragon have a repair service for them. Meaning that they have a precise jig to drill them. Lou.

You can say it...I am cheap as all hell...

In many cases you can buy one that isn't mucked up or has already been fixed right for less than the repair service which I went and took another look at it,
Might be a lost cause,
Some idiot used machine screws not bolts, all 4 are busted off, I would have no way to drill from the inside too close to the door and the holes from the outside shows the point of the machine screw about 1/4 way down so a drill is just gonna walk and hunt all over that for the softer door metal...
But since it was free and likely trash any ideas I will try just for the fun of it....

And this door might be a great buck to pull a mold off of, I want to try to make a fiberglass door....project 1001

Had my windshield wiper door repaired by Paragon.

While the door was off to be repaired by Paragon, I went to J&D Corvette's salvage yard to find a good one. They must have had about 50 doors. I went through the entire stack..every one had a broken off stud and what few didn't were collision damaged.......finally...with only TWO OR THREE REMAINING...I found an undamaged door.

BTW The 68 door is slightly different from all the other years. But they are all interchangeable.

When you re-install these doors...PLEASE put some anti-seize on the threads. The doors are not pot metal. They are an aluminum alloy.

Bats, thank you for being kind. I got my butt bit off not to long ago, in a recent post! Also, since I have had my "bucket of bolts", for 42 years, I have a few GM replacement wiper door bolts, and they have yellow Loctite on the threads. As if we don't have enough problems with them snapping off. All of that weight of the wiper door on four 10-24 shoulder bolts...Dumb move on GM's part. Just like the 1/4-20 shaft on the 68 wiper actuators. Mine snapped. Lou.

Being made of aluminum alloy makes sense ... they don't really look like they're made of pot metal. Can you please reveal how you got this info? Do you know if aluminum alloy would be more likely to be weldable?

I had one that had a cracked off corner, heli-arced at work. Yes it is aluminum. Lou.
