Default Strange 1976 Alarm Gremlin* RESOLVED**

Strangest thing. The alarm horn works, the door and hood switches are good, the relay clicks open and closed with fender key. Contacts at horn are clean and test 12V when testing w/o horn.

When I completely uninstall the horn and reinstall, it sounds through on off cycles (Key on, drivers door activated, sounds, key turned off) But on the third cycle.. nothing. Yet Horn still test out and leads show 12v.
---------------------------

Well its been solved. Although the horn tested on a bench and worked under certain conditions, an adjustment (very fine, 1/8th of a turn) of the sounding screw on the horn itself needed tweaking.

Hope this helps someone else.

Yes, yellow wire is the ground form the relay I believe. That's what has me so baffled.

Default Update but no progress

I replaced the 3 pin switches, the alarm relay and the alarm horn flasher. Still the same.

I traced and checked for continuity.. all seemed to check out.

When I bypass the flasher, the horn sounds constantly.

Sounds like a flasher problem.

Thanks Jim

I replaced the flasher as a test.. with 2 new ones. Both old and new show same results.

Alarm works as a constant horn when I jump the flasher. So everything else is in working order. Only thing I can think of is the amps to the flasher are too low to engage it.

Update...

Flashers both new and old tested ok.

I am truly stumped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Best

Another update on the Gremlin..

If I bridge the White wires from the flasher with a ground, place a bulb in the middle and touch the hot lead from the battery. The horn sounds and pulses as does the bulb..

So odd...

BTW.. The horn seems to be set properly when it sounds like a flock of geese flying into a wood chipper. Tuning it to sound like an actual alarm yields sporadic results.
