Default Vent Ball Duct Seals 1969 no AC

I have new felt seals for the vent ***** but now I noticed that at the rear of the the ball's housing had some type of seal where it connects to the black plastic 90 degree tube. The tube that is held to the pillar's hole with a wing nut. So I'm wondering what I should use for a seal here.
A pic to illustrate. You can see remnants of adhesive at the rear of the housing. Thanks, Rick

I'll check the donor to see what it has. Maybe some will chime in in the meantime.

When I did the ducts on the 68 used a 1/2" wide closed cell foam tape with peel off paper over the adhesive side. I believe it was 1/4" thick and was purchased at Ace Hardware. Any store such as Home Depot or Lowes will have the tape.

Good plan Fordman. I'll get some. Would really like the system to be nice and tight. Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,

I'm working on mine too. Mine have the tape, and some residual tar like substance on the tape...from what I can tell, the other end of the duct had it on the inside where it attaches to the cowl

Thanks Roger. I'm starting to get some of this back together. Love your avatar pic. Those gill inserts look great with the sidepipes on the black car. Rick

You can use foam...which will disintegrate [again] with time; or you could put a layer (or two) of black felt on the surface (with glue or tape) to act as a seal. I used felt to redo the seals on the dash '*****' almost 10 years ago and they still work great today.
