Default 1968 Corvette Rear Chassis Braces Survey

Interesting point in another thread prompts me to do this. Does your '68 Corvette have the factory bracing for the rear kick up section of the frame?

If so, post yes or no and your build date from the body tag so we can narrow when this occurred.

Thanks

Yep. April 20, 1968. The A. O. Smith stencil is illegible, so I have no date for the frame.

Oh, great, another thing that isn't original on my car ....I've got the braces and a build date of Nov 3, 1967. Although this may be a good thing. I suspect that the only "original" part on my car is the VIN tag.

This should narrow it down quite a bit. I have an April 18, 1968 car that doesn't have them.

Can you read your frame stencil?

Unfortunately no, car received a cheap repaint at one point in it's life and they over sprayed all over the side of the frame where the stencil is.

Mine is January 3, 1968 and it has them. May not be the original frame?

Based on this highly scientific study, I'd suggest that April is the time frame of when Chevy started putting in the braces in.

It also proves we have a lot of old cars that have been changed over the years, like the early ones with braced frames.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the non-68 frame in the picture.
