Default which engine color came on 74's?

A friend of mine just bought a 74 and the engine block is blue with chrome valve covers.
Mine is a 74 and it's factory orange color and we are wondering if chevy made blue engines on the 74's too

The use of "Corporate Blue" didn't begin until sometime during the 1978 model year. Prior to that Chevy Orange was standard.

77 was the first year for the blue engine paint. Blue was used until 82, when it was replaced by black.

56-76 V8's were painted Chevrolet Engine Orange.

Does your friend know where to look to possibly identify his/her engine?

Default engine color

I agree with gbvette. I just pulled the sb350 out of my 77. It was painted blue and I didn't like. It is now a clean, fresh, bright chevy orange sb and it looks a lot better.
