Congratulations on the C3, do you have any pictures of it?

$12,000 sounds fair, but condition is key.

That's a great price. I own a '74 in Dark Metallic Brown too and you're going to find that it's a pretty rare color on any C3. In nearly forty years of checking out anything cool on wheels, I've only seen one or two other dark brown C3's. I've had mine for two years and still haven't personally seen another one, yet!

No point in asking if you got a good deal after you already bought it. Just enjoy it.

I have mixed feelings about that. I am glad you got such a nice car for that amount of money, but I am sad such a nice car did not bring more.
But congrats on the purchase. It looks like a lot of fun. Glad you are in Texas and don't have to wait to drive it.

Default beat

Sorry I was beat last night after being at the auction all day. Just to clearify things this car went to the bid goes on it did not meet the reserve and the top bid was 14K my thoughts were that the non present seller did not want to transport it home so I made the 12K offer and he took it, I am thankful for the great deal and should have it Tuesday to enjoy. Since this is my first C3 is there anything i should know about it? What is the L48?

The L48 was the base 350/195 horse motor for 74. The optional L82 was 250 horse. Looks like you got a very nice, unmolested original 74 at a very fair price. Nothing that jumps out at me as that different (other than a split rear bumper) than most C3 rubber bumper Vettes. It might be a good idea to change all the fluids if it hasn't been done recently. Like any older Vette you will be fixing and tinkering.

Enjoy your new Vette

Default 190 horse

190 horse, that will be a big change my daily driver is a c6 GS 435 hp, the c-3 will be a week-end good weather driver and a project car to give me something to work on during my spare time.

I'm confused, the seller turned down 14 and took 12?
The car looks sweet, I hope there are no rust issues, that still has me haunted with my 69....

Hi rt,
It looks like a nice car. I'll bet you're pretty excited!
From looking at the pictures it appears the interior isn't in all that good of shape….it's a bit worn, but that's something you can deal with as you see fit.
The seats look like the foam bolsters are compressed which has let the covers loosen up, the e-brake console is broken from someone using their elbow there to boost themselves out of the car, and the driver's side door panel is split for the same reason.
These are pretty typical things for a car of this age with it's original interior.
If the rest of the car is more or less this original you'll know what you have and what things may need a little attention. This seems like it'll will fit well your willingness to have a project to play with.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Sometimes it's not all about how good of a deal it was and more about how happy you were to get it. In this case it looks like you got a very nice car at a very fair price and you sound very excited about it. I would call that a win - win.
Good luck with it and enjoy the ride.

Default issues

Yes I am very happy I was able to buy this car for a fair price, I have plans to have all of the fluids changed before I drive it. This is my first C3 I have owned is there anything else I should have done or check for known problems? During my inspection I did notice the car has a new gas tank and tail pipes. Also I know other generations of corvettes you can order the window sticker and build sheet, are they available for the C3?

There was a '74 L-48 roadster for sale out this way a few months ago. Same colors as this.
At a dealer, they were pushing it as low miles. Around 50,000 IIRC. Asking $14k to start.
Brake pedal said actual miles were 150,000. Had both tops. Motor was matching no's, but someone had gotten into it. Intake manifold bolts narc'd that out. Slushbox.

It was a neat car at $9-10k.

Yours is nicer. I think you did well. Color is very period correct. DON'T CHANGE THE COLOR!!!
Browns were big on every car in the '70s.
You'll have fun with this car, promise!!
I seriously almost bought the car I spoke of above for my daughter.

Agreed! As mentioned, they were scarce to begin with. It is a rich earthy color the metallic just adds that special highlights to the lines. You just brought nearly one of a kind, as you're highly unlikely to ever see another one. Bucnches of reds, blues, blacks and silver Corvettes, but very few in brown, green or gold.
