71 LS5 at Mecum

I'm watching a replay of Mecum auction from last year, and a 69"....L89 coupe with automatic sale for 37,500. Like a few here on the forum have said, if there was true bid, the guy was a fool for not taking the money and run. I would much rather have a 69"... L89, than a 71"...454, for the 29,500 difference.

I can respect that. But are you selling your car?
I know a lady with a beat up 65 Mustang that doesnt run that will not sell her car at any price because it belonged to her dad. Does that mean its worth more than another? There are people that would not pay $100 for any Vette just because they don't like them. All of that is totally irrelevant.
So maybe not yours for that price, as many people believe there car is worth more than it is and there car will never sell or they have emotional attachment, no disrespect, but there are MANY out there who will part with there car for a realistic price if they want to sell it. There are plenty of choices. Any object is only worth what someone will actually pay for it. Thats when a seller finds out what there item is really worth.
Its just odd that there are LS5's out there for sale that are very nice that do not sell at much lower prices and this one gets super high and mysteriously DOESN'T hit its reserve.
If you really wanted to sell your car don't expect anywhere near that price. The asking price of $60k+ is a price a man puts on his LS5 that his wife wants him to sell.
It comes down to this. If a seller really wants to sell there LS5 or any type car then they will be more flexible.
The buyers set the market price, not the sellers. Supply and demand.
A bidder who bids 67k and doesn't win a LS5 auction can easily take that money and buy 2 of them everywhere else in the world. That also means there was a bidder right behind him. So, where are these buyers? Don't they have Internet access. With that kind of money I would think they might have a PC by now....
Was that the only really hot LS5 out there? Anywhere? Is there something really special about that car that maybe we are unaware of at this moment?
Show me a recent confirmed sale price. Maybe I'm wrong.

If a decent not abused, maintained to min. standard, org. number BB vet from 68-70 can't bring 30-40k then the market perception of value if totaly off. This is a discount for what they should be selling for. Matching number 396 chevelles are selling for two times that amount. I think the general auction market get fixated on a car or marque and just dolls out stupid dollars for cars that collectors or traders are after and then the numbers go to places were they make no sense. Perfect examples are the ferrari dino, ( they were non ferrari to the purist 5 year ago), now they are gold went for 70K for a nice one to 250k then to 400 plus ? Why they are not even ferrari to many. Or how about the Ford GT- 185-200k for ten years all you wnated then, this month they are 350-400k. The steel bumper cars that have mathcing numbers are some of the best looking highest Hp vet of the muscle car era. The later C3 as most know are not the same raw hp, car, and totaly different look and sytle. Time will tell but I think these cars are undervlaued gems and to me it is like having an investment that I enjoy a lot more than some shares of exxon or one of them technology stocks. Are they great investments we will see....
