tell me about front bumpers
I am all busy getting my ducks in a row trying not to pull the cart before the horse...damn them double cliches..
This is another thread on chrome bumpers...
I plan to make molds and run fiberglass bumpers...
I have my rear bumpers and soon thanks to oldgto will have the front,
But the bumperettes, and the trim around the grills ( whats the real name for those? )
Are they the same 68-72?

Eckler says 68-69 has the same grill.........
'70-'72 same grill.............
I'm guessing the chrome trim that fits around the grills is different for those two divisions (I don't know the AIM part name for the chrome trim)

Thanks guys ....I was fearing I would have to post off topic tripe to get a reply...
Okay, so 68-69 front grills and 70-72 front grills are different and in turn the chrome trim around them is different,
and the bumperettes are different...
Am I correct so far?
If the front end has no grills would the chrome that goes around the grills and bumperettes interchange 68-72? or does it's mounting depend on the grills,
What I am trying to figure out is what bumperettes and grill trims to look for at swap meets or ebay for my 69, I am not using stock grills I have custom gills being made for the car that fit like stock grills....
I got that 68-69 ecklers one piece front clip but isnt the only difference to 70-72 the side vents vs egg crates isnt the nose itself the same 68-72?

I don`t know about 68-69, but on my 71, the bumperettes have a bump-out on the bottom to meet with the trim around the grill.....

If by bumperettes you're referring to what the vendors call bumper guards (the vertical chrome pieces immediately on either side of the license plate), yes, there is a 68/69 pair and a differently shaped 70-72 pair. The horsehoe shaped front bumper centre brace is also different between 68/69 and 70-72.

Melting Slicks
Bats, 68'69 grilles are plastic and the L shaped molding is a separate piece. The 70-72's grille is a pot metal casting and has the L shaped piece molded into it. The bumperettes are the same basic shape, but the 68,69 have an extra ridge molded into them, to match the raised ridge on the L molding. The 70-72 bumperettes do not have the extra raised ridge, but have a small steel piece welded on and painted silver to fill in a gap on the grilles. Hope this helps everyone, Lou.

Personally I prefer the look of the 68/69 grills to the 70-72 grills. There's another reason to like the 68/69 grills better, the major Corvette parts houses sell them for about $180 for left, right, and centre grill. The 70-72 grills are about $600 apiece for just the left or right grill.

I never liked the license plate ruining the flow on the front, the poor old 80-82's front bumper gets a big black eye from it, of course some states make this a law....but I wanted a more streamlined front,
I didnt really like any of the stock grills best,
I have one of these being made for my car,
The center part really makes this a stunner to me,

I agree, stunning grills - better than either the 68/69 or the 70-72. If you don't mind me asking, how much are they going to cost you?
If he makes yours identical to those and you put on the chrome pieces underneath the left and right sides I think the fins might be to close to the chrome to look right.

I will have to ask about the grill trim chrome fitting,
These are custom made I would assume fin count could be changed to suit the builder...

Hoy Offered to make them with turn lamp holes I passed, I love this old school 60-70's custom look it has to me, like my 66 did,
I will either mount something behind the grills or modern up and use LED's or who knows what, I will figure it out when the parts are in front of me I am guessing something in the outer lower curves....

Annnnnnnnnnd....you could "lose" the bottom fin on the grill if it interfered with the bottom chrome piece.

For some reason the topic of custom fiberglas parts always seems to bring out the same violations of promoting Non Supporting Vendors, complete with edits, removed posts and sanctions.
Carry on.
