Ignition Shield Install Question

Drifting
There are tabs that are attached to the exhaust manifold and then a chrome wing nut holds the shielding on. They should show them in the AIM's manual look under the radio section I believe.

See if these photos will help. You can see where I have the long screws
are were the wing nuts attach the shield to the tabs off of the manifold bolts.

Hi Donnie,
In the first picture it appears the exhaust is hooked directly to the leaf blower!
That must take a serious strap for your shoulder to carry that around to take care of the yard!
Regards,
Alan

Hi,
Here are those 2 shields in their position on 71 exhaust manifolds.
You need to make sure you get the correct bracket on the correct bolt and also use a thick spacer on the rear bolt on each side where there isn't a bracket…. just the french lock.

Alan

Ironically, I have trees in my yard that began dropping leaves in the
fall and continually drops them until the new ones bud out in the spring.
So that leave blower gets plenty use.

Did you replate your original RF shields?

Hi Pete,
Those pictures are from today.
The engine compartment is apart right now. I bought an original aluminum radiator from someone here on this Forum (my original 'weeps') and one thing led to another, and another, and another!
The front suspension was already off so it was a good chance to re-do some things.
PLUS an opportunity for some new pictures from areas that I hadn't covered when I assembled the chassis 15 years ago.
The shields in the pictures are repros that I have on the engine now, while the originals are packed away but were on the car when it was Flight Judged.
Regards,
Alan

Well!
That explains it all. Thanks guys.
And especially to you Alan! Thank you for taking the time to put it in pictures. It's very clear now. I have to find those mounting tabs & wing bolts, after which, the wires will then be totally shielded.
Thanks again.

1970 was the last year plug shields were used on the front 2 sets of plugs, but rear shields were used through 82.
At the start of 1970, all 4 pairs of plugs came with ignition shielding. At some point during the 70 model year (possibly around May?), the 2 front shields were eliminated. All 71-79 Corvettes came with shielding, on the two rear sets of plugs.
80 to 82's just had a single shield, on the left rear pair of plugs.
Chrome wing nuts were used to attach the shielding up until 1976, while 77-82's used a regular hex head nut.

Hi,
I believe it was the introduction of the RFI shield that changed the shielding requirements….. or maybe that just changed the distributor shield configuration requirement?
?
Regards,
Alan

Correct. Rear 2 plugs only. I've seen lots of cars show up with four shields cause 'the vendors sell them'.
I somehow thought the OP was asking about the front two plugs. Sorry.
