Anyone ever replace a power antenna mast?
I'm in the middle, actually I'm done with replacing the mast in a GM power antenna but noticed in the instructions there diagram shows the gear wheel in a different position that I had mine before putting the two halves back together. Does that matter? How does the motor know when to stop? Is it by resistance? I see through the gear wheel what looks like a magnet but don't see any pickups. So I'd like to know if it makes a difference in relation in positioning before I bolt it in the car.
Thanks,
AL

Why not bench test it first.

If it won't go up, try down first til it stops.
Resistance stops the travel. Did you notice the tabs on the shaft that contact the switch?
That's the problem with buying an nos antenna, it's still 30 years old with a dried up nylon cable wound up inside!
Everyone I buy and sell gets a new cable. Except for one that came back to bite me. Won't do that again!
I just bought a nos antenna mast assembly. The nylon cable pretty much disintegrated, and it wasn't even wound up, just old!
