Squeak at low speed right rear
Hi I'm not at home so can't lift car. Away with car for a couple of days.
Just arrived at our destination and I have a squeak on the right rear tyre. Anyone have any ideas what this could be it's 1977.
Thanks.

Melting Slicks
I had a constant squeak while driving my 73 a few years ago. Squeaked whenever the car was moving. The culprit for me were rusted pins in the brake assembly. After cleaning the rust and crud, they were re-installed and the squeak was gone. You didn't mention when you hear your squeak - going over bumps only, on a straight away or turning, so hard to tell without further details.

This could be all sorts of things causing the squeak. Rear bearing, rear u-joint, brake pad issue and so on.
If the rotor has excessive run out or is warped, you'll get a squeak from the pad rubbing the pin, rusted or not and a common problem.
If this is the problem a quick look at the pins should show a nice clean worn spot from the pad.

Agree with Wilcox
Some issue with brake likely. I recently Replaced trailing arm assemblies all new parts , rotors etc.....all the squeaks disappeared ., that had plagued the car forever . All kinds of issues can suddenly appear.
If it never goes away , mine were always intermittent ...I wouldn't ignore it. You don't want a suspension item to fail or bearing

I have the same problem 1979 Corvette... Havent had the car that long.... But noticed that when I lightly apply the brakes, the squeek disapates. So. When pressure is applied to the brakes one would assume, it's somwhere in the brakes. Therefore, I'm am assuming brakes.... I have new rotors, pads, and caliper rebuild kits on the way. I will also check run out and e brake. I could be wrong but one would think if the squeek was in the drive train it wouldnt go away when brakes are lightly applied.

You are responding to a 6 year old post and should probably determine what is causing the problem before buying all of those parts.

Still best to start new "fresh" threads where possible
When putting all that new stuff into your car remember:
1, take the time to shim the rotors to run true
2, the front and rear rotors LOOK the same but the dimensions are different and if you put the wrong ones on the wrong end the tighten up against the caliper and drag
3, go ahead and buy a tube of the pad "glue" CRC or permatex disc brake quiet which will help prevent the pads from lightly vibrating on the calipers and causing a low speed squeak
Just my $.02

Thank you Mooser, All great pointers that have already been considered. Any thoughts on the plastic anti squeak shims available from the Vette sites?

Tried them with very little success, (still had a low speed squeak on the passenger rear wheel) removed them and went to the "glue" and it was gone. Couple of bucks and there's enough in the bottle to last a life-time
The basic idea is good but seems like they got old and hard? or didn't like the heat, one way or another they are in the "old" box on the shelf

Thank you Mooser! I have a bottle of glue and will use that. I thought the same thing of the plastic not holding up to the heat...I guess always go with works ...the glue
