Default Dumb C3 things

Happy New Year!

A lot's been said about what's to love and hate about C3s. But what about the dumb things that are still sort of cool? By that I mean - a feature, component, part, or characteristic that miraculously still functions but you'd probably not miss if it didn't. Or anything which seems charming because it's silly, or obsolete.

Here are some of mine:

1. The little square dash light that reminds me the headlights are coming on.

2. Ashtray cover that slides backwards from a dead stop.

3. 'Automatic' headlight bright switch (automatically/inadvertently operated by pilot's left foot).

That's one feature I wish GM would've kept. I know they're trouble prone, but they're so...uh....George Jetson.

Yeah. That's it.

What's opera lighting? I would assume a 78 is considered a "later car"

I especially like that the warning light can be TURNED OFF simply by pushing a button (at least on my '70). Makes you wonder why GM put the light there in the first place...

8 track player. Nothing says 70's more than that. Pick up some old 8 tracks at a flea market and your kids will think you have finally gone over the edge!

Yeah, wasn't it great when halfway though your favorite song the music would fade out...then a KA-CHUNK as the track changed...then the rest of the song would fade back in... those were the days weren't they!

You just brought back a long forgotten memory of a '70 Cougar XR7, my fiancee and a road trip. Oh, it's not sad; the tape deck worked. (rimshot)

The hide-a-way wipers. Under that vacuum operated door that would refuse to open when you needed the wipers the most. Very cool. Turn the wipers on, door opens, wipers start. Most of the time. Vacuum leak, hose fell off door no open. Later they went to a longer hood and no extra door.

1. the purpose of the light is to advise that one or both headlight buckets has not fully locked into position.

2. the tracks that the ashtray lid slides on are worn out or missing. New ones are just a few dollars

I use it to keep the seat belt out of the way when not in use.
