In addition to the new edition to the JG, I got a lot of use out of the Bizocco book as well as Dobbins' book for picture references on my 2 '69s.

Best of luck.

After following your Sparty build, I'm surely looking forward to this one.

My vote goes to back to original, a gold 350/350 4 speed.

Looks like a great project car. Riverside Gold is a nice color and the L46 is a great engine. Looking forward to your updates. With rivizio and now you restoring a couple of really nice 69's there will be a lot of interesting posts for us 69 guys to follow.

It looks like a metal shroud with aluminum radiator and overflow tank. I think that would be correct for a very early build L46.

If you think there might EVER be Flight Judging in this 69's future…. even by a future owner, it would be wise for you to get to know the information in it.
That information will have an impact on how this car is restored.

Hi Alan, thanks for the information. Yes sir, been an NCRS member for a number of years, just never heard anyone abbreviate the title. I have the manuals for my 77's, will get the manual for the 68-69.
Thank you.

LOL, teaches me to use my reading glasses more often. Yes, I saw that after looking closely. I was fixated on the hood blanket, which was not on all 69's.

My Aug 69 build L46 (Orig side exhaust) car has the blanket, and orig copper radiator.

Dave, I have an original 7029207 DA Quadrajet core if interested. It is an original (not service replacement) but the date is off for your car (2619). I'd let it go relatively cheap.

My Dec 69 built L46 has the copper radiator and no hood blanket. GM sure made a lot changes during the production run, but that's part of what makes this hobby so interesting and fun.

Same as mine (also copper radiator), I think my car had blanket right?

Birdcage and chassis have no rust. I'll get pictures when I can get it up on I one of my lifts. Frame was POR15 coated. No rust.

I agree, the L46 is a nice engine.
BUT I've bought new heads, I've been fighthing for years now, with knocking due to high compression and the quality of gas I can get here in Denmark. (99 octane Shell classic car EU gas. I think it is 94 octane US gas)
That is why I've bought new heads, to lower the compression.

Not to hijack, but 99 RON/94 AKI is far higher than we commonly have here and also far higher than what these cars needed when new.

Are you sure it's a detonation issue? Is your engine stock?

It is actually a project that has been in progress for a number of years now. I am just fortunate enough to be able to take it from its current status of 80-85% to the finish line.

Car will be available when finished, just not sure when that will be yet.

No problem Mike. I honestly was wondering the same thing. Should this engine be running on 89 mid grade or does it really need 91 high octane RON?

Yes, L46 186 heads, HW block 0.030 over, +2.6 pistons, 3.48" stroke, L46 cam.

Set your ignition to the stock timing. Try a tank of 91. If no detonation, wait till you get to half a tank and add 89. If no pinging, wait till empty and fill with a half tank of 89. If no pinging, you're all set. If it pings on pure 89, top up with 91.

It's unlikely that it will be able to run detonation free on 87 like the later cars with lower compression.
