Looking around I found this:
Total:37502
Convertibles: 5474
Convertibles with 454's= 3494
~510 25146 Automatics in 74 = 67% means 342 BB convertibles with automatic, and 168 manual.
So 168 convertible BB 454 with manual... Not so common so I could see some "stupid" money being spent to acquire one.

Rare or not, I agree with Orange and Zoom, thats an awful lot of money. Plus adding buyer's premium to total?
Even with sellers fees deducted, I wonder what the seller was expecting... and what he eventually got?

I seen much higher prices on the f - n 3 to 4 actual matching numbers like it I've seen in the past 35 years .....
Not many 454 made in 74 ....like 4 % of total....especially convertibles....the second rarest year to 1965 396 in term of quantity ....BB produced
That a lot of car for the money......try paying someone to rebuild any C3 back to that level............
Wake up....stuff an't cheap anymore ...
There are some very very difficult to find piece s on those cars :for those of us who know ...rock:

The 74 BB is going to be just that, it is rare and it's the last. I restored my 74 Coupe BB that was on the cover of Corvette Milestones and I think I got something like 36K for that car in 2007. I would love to have it back and it is only going to be worth more. While they don't make the big HP that early version did and they don't have chrome bumpers, put it in perspective, they are rare and while the chrome bumper conv BB's are selling for 80+k, 50k for the last is a pretty good deal.

BB convertibles are hard to find , harder to find in decent shape no matter what the bumpers are made of , what you want is a huge factor as to what you are willing to pay.
some people don't want a coupe or a smallblock , to those people there are considerably less cars to choose from.
to me a nice smallblock , chrome bumper , auto coupe with no air is a stupid price at $7500.00 simply because I don't want one like that....its all relative

Although my 74 BB Vert is still apart, makes me happy that I am fortunate enough to own one today. I could have kept it together as a survivor, since it only has 10,254 original miles on it, but when purchased it wasn't with the thought of reselling in the future.
The engine is mostly apart and getting a roller cam & lifters, along with 68 427 "215" heads for more power than the stock LS4.
And it is Dark Brown Metallic with a white top, not the most popular color, so a color change may be a consideration, still thinking about that though.
Of course it's nice to see a 74 BB Vert go for "insane" money as stated.
The only way I would sell mine is if it would put me into C7 Z06 territory...... As my Dad use to say, "you got pipe dreams"
Now presently owning two C3's and one C4, I still think the C3 is one of the best styling designs the Corvette has ever had. Take note, I didn't say the best, but one of the best, it is definitely a timeless design..... Tom

Well you can always look at it like this. The guy that spends 60K on that 74 compared to say someone spending 60K on a new C7. While the C7 is the nicer road car, you are still spending 60K. In 10 years, while you did receive some enjoyment for your money, that 60k car is now worth like 25K at best, maybe even less. The guy that spent 60K on his 74 has had fun showing and doing a little driving, but his 60k has turned a profit now. It is all how you look at it. The 74 BB is a collectable and one of the fastest growing ones. The next one is the 75 conv, especially when it is a L82 4spd.

You can find 70' BB converts at that price.

Thanks for posting this. I think your numbers are pretty accurate. These cars are freaks. Mine is VIN # 00036 74 Ls4,ragtop,hardtop,auto,PW,Ps,PB, leather with NO factory ac leaves people shaking their heads. Street side Classics said to start it at 55K and take 50k. Would probably sell to overseas buyer.
