Default Engine stamp pad

Could use some feedback from the experts. How does this engine stamp pad look? Numbers match VIN. What do you look for here?

The pad was not painted, so someone has not done you any favors. There is also a second stamping on the pad to identify the engine. You want to be able to see and read both stamps.

And without the paint on it.

Make sure that whoever removes the paint, does it carefully. Don't use a scraper (at least not in a vigorous fashion), sandpaper, course steel wool, etc. You don't want to do or use anything, that would damage or remove the broach marks from the pad. Carefully chipping away what's there, and a little paint thinner, should be all that's needed to clean it.

The paint looks like it's already peeling on it's own, so it should not take much effort to remove it.

I just spent a lot of time starring at my original 69 block #'s
rebuilt the motor and preserved the original #'s and block, and yes I painted them when done for protection, they can still be read clearly.

I looks original to me, from what is exposed,
the second group of numbers is below the first/ under the paint
just out of field of current pic.

The big giveaway for a restamped engine is fake, or non-existent broach marks ... you have some pretty good broach marks there. With those broach marks, any scenarios of
the stamp being counterfeit are pretty weak. there is a great probability that those are good numbers under that paint.

BUT, since it is a big block, be very careful.. get all the numbers. Including the casting date of the block on the back of the engine and get the rest of the numbers under the paint.

A big block car has high motivation for hanky panky.
