My '69 is in the paint shop. Since buying it in '99, all kinds of other stuff got handled, but it suffered in black DP40 up until know. Here are a few early shots:

Ironically, my '65 Monza has been at a different shop in a labor trade: his paint expertise for a motor build by yours truly. Pics are my Corvair and his '62 Turbo engine. Two cars to assemble!

Hi W,
Burgundy with a black top will look sharp!
The Corvair looks like a nice one.
I remember how cool the exhaust looked on the turbo equipped Corvairs.
Wasn't it just one sorta fat exhaust on the right side?
Regards,
Alan

Hi,
Just saw the pictures of the 409/425.
They were big heavy motors but really started it all in the early sixties.
For me it was what turned me from interest in customs to muscle cars.
Very PRETTY!

Alan

yea, it's the original color, or at least close. I found it under red, green and some other color close to brown. It was painted 3 times by 1978 when it was stolen in Phoenix. Allstate insurance recovered it in Oakland CA in 1982.

going in the booth
Well, it goes in Monday. Painter has all day, it's the only car he's doing that day. Here it is ready to go except for the tape job.

side pipes
When I get it home, I'll have to pull the side pipes off and have them re-done. is that ceramic coated or powder coated or what? they have a glass pack muffler incorporated, does that mean I can't do that? I can always repaint them with Black High heat, but it sure doesn't last long!

Keep a couple spare spray cans of High Heat in the car.....and a piece of cardboard to deflect overspray........the sidepipes will ALWAYS look new!

Hey, check out the '69 Camaro in the background. Guy pulled it out of the weeds, it has been hit hard in the rear a while ago, these guys are replacing both quarters, the trunk floor, the deck lid and the roof! you can just make the inner roof frame in the second photo of my car at the end. What a project! that car would have been scrapped in an earlier era, now it's coming back from the dead. I'll take some pics next week.

Talk about bringing back memories.....My first car was a Corvair, and the OE engine gave me a lot of trouble. I got another one, disassemble, from a co-worker who was going to put it in a dune buggy, then lost interest.
I assembled it in my basement, then muscled it outside, with the help of a couple of fiends. I had the engine all assembled, then had to wait a week to do the swap, as a blizzard blew in, the week I was going to install it.....
On the paint job!

As for the '69 Camaro I am not at all surprised anymore at what gets sold and saved. I'm glad to see these cars being resurrected but boy some of them take some serious love and money to see the light of day again.
Nice that it's the original color and very cool you are in-line on Monday! Looking forward to pics next week.

I'd stick with VHT if that is what you decide to paint/touch them up with. Hands-down the best high-temp paint both to lay down and in terms of quality IMHO. I swear by it. If you decide to keep 'em black them sand them down, hit them with the VHT primer and then repaint.
