Default 79 firewall question,,,

Can't anyone tell me what rubber hose/fitting located on the firewall right behind the distributor is for. It's the size of a thick wall vacuum line about 3/8 of a inch. It protrudes about 3/4 out of firewall. It looks like it might have broken of? Thanks,,,

If no one else answers I can take a look tonight when I get home, if my memory is correct, which is most likely not I think the headlight vac goes in there. I just looked up some pictures I have and I am wrong. The headlight vac is behind the valve cover. I see the one you are talking about and I don't know, I assumed that line went to the heater control.

The only hose I can think of in the area on the firewall that is similar to this description is the vent line / hose coming off the wiper door actuator. It's the only hose that is opened on the fire wall for a reason.

Are your windshield washers hooked up? From what your describing, it sounds like it might be the hose for the left side washer.

The washer hose comes off of the tank, runs across the firewall above and behind the brake booster, and into a "T". From the "T", the hose for the left side, goes through the firewall, just to the right of the distributor recess in the firewall. Only a short section of hose, is on the engine side of the firewall.

i think that is a rubber plug or bushing that is pushed in from the interior during assembly. the end of it may have been knocked off so it looks like a hose. it in the middle of the pic above trans collar on firewall, took this when i rebuilt my engine.

If that's what the OP is referring to, I believe that's the back side of one of the carpet plugs, that hold the firewall insulation and carpet, in place.

I had a chance to look at it close. It looks like it's just plug of some type. It isn't washer tubing, vacuum line, I think I just broke off the tip making it look different,,,
