does anyone know if I can go to my local auto parts store and buy the choke activation device or do I need to order it from a vendors store. I am talking about the spring like item that bolts onto the intake manifold that opens the choke as the engine warms up. I checked the Auto Zone site and can not find this item.

Auto Zone lists 316 choke thermostats.

Not sure where you live, but normally there is more than one auto part store too choose from. Did you try NAPA, Carquest, etc..
