1973 seat dimensions
I'm doing a Trans America rally in June in my 1973 and want to fit sheepskin seat covers for comfort. We'll be in the car all day, every day for over a month. I'm a long way from the car right now but want to order the covers. Could someone give me the seat dimensions?
Also, if anybody has put sheepskins on, can you recommend - or otherwise - any brands?
Regards
John H

Hi John,
From reading your other thread it sounds like you're in for an interesting experience.
It also sounds like you're in Australia while the car you bought is here…. is that correct?
If so, what have you been doing to insure that the car you've purchased is capable of the trip you've planned?
It seems like a pretty rigorous test for a car you're not familiar with. I really can't imagine driving it 10,000 miles in one month without some breakdowns.
So, what's up?
Regards,
Alan

The trip
Hi Alan,
You're right on both counts. But I live part of the year in CO, where the car is. I bought it in January in KY. It was a good car to start with, older restoration. I had a Corvette guy in KY go over it from head to to checking and replacing anything that needed doing or tightening. New suspension bushes and trailing arms, shocks, calipers, master cylinder, radiator, fuel pump, tires, etc.. The list goes on. Also had the carb and distributor rebuilt in Denver by Lars Grimsrud.
We're not expecting a trouble free trip but we're both competent plus the rally has a service truck with mechanics. We did Sydney London rally last year in a 1974 Volvo we built and that was pretty trouble free.
Fingers crossed. If/when we have any trouble, this excellent forum will be our first point of call.

The route
It should be a lot of fun. We're really looking forward to it. The event is a similar style to a TSD rally, if you're into that sort of thing (we are!). If you're interested, here's a link to the rally website.

that's great to get a recommendation. Are you talking about the Deluxe, Custom, or Tailor made? I'm hoping I can use the Custom, because they look good and are a LOT cheaper thank the Tailor made.

John,
I would guess; the colder the temps, the longer the wool. My temps would let me get by with the shortest: Deluxe.
I'd probably fall asleep in those other ones! Real Sealy Posturepedics!
I do see there's no cutouts for the Through-the-Seatback Shoulder Safety Belt.

Steve,
Thanks, I hadn't noticed there were no cutouts. For this event, it doesn't matter because we are using harnesses, but if I decide to keep using the covers and go back to the original belts, I'll have to get something done. I doubt a simple cut with a knife would work. It would just split and get longer.

Location of seat release latch: help please
I've spoken to the Rocky Mountain sheepskin people and they will cut and stitch a hole so I can get to the catch near the top, rear of the seat. The one that allows the seat to tilt forward.
My problem: I'm still in Sydney, Australia and my car is in Colorado. Could someone help me out by measuring the size of the catch and how far down from the top of the seat it it.
The car is a 1973 Corvette with standard seats.
Thanks
John

On my '73, the hole size is a rectangle shape of 1.75" wide and 1" tall.
The center of the rectangle is 2.25" from the seat's top edge.
