Default My Spare Wheel

G'day all,
My spare wheel is not a corvette wheel and my problem is that I don't
even know if it is a chevy wheel! Now I have been driving around with
this in the spare location for the last 3 or so years, but I am now
wanting to know if it will fit my car or if I need to replace it. So if you
can identify it please let me know so I can take the appropriate action.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Mark

You could try to put it on the car, but I would venture to say that it won't fit.

Hi Mark,
I'm thinking 70 Cutlass wheel.
If it came off a W-30 it's worth a small fortune, otherwise not so much.
Regards,
Alan

I'm thinking it's a late 70s Camaro wheel. I know the Olds Super Stock IIs, that "Alan" is referring to, and I'm pretty sure it's not one of those....

G'day Guys,
Thanks for the info. In the centre of the wheel there is a spring clip pop riveted to the
wheel presumably to locate a centre cap.

Alan, knowing where the car came from, it would seem very unlikely that it would be off
anything that is valuable, but thanks for your help.

Leadfoot, if it is a Camaro wheel, will it fit my '69 vet? It is only for a spare after all. I will
have a look on the net for those wheels and see what I can find for comparison.

Thanks again for your help and if anyone else can identify that wheel please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Regards,
Mark

It's not a Camaro rim. First question is the rim 15"? Most Camaro rims were 14", the Z-28 had 15" and that rim doesn't belong to a Z-28.

I checked out those rims and found then on a 1985 Chevy El Camino. The pentagon shape of the holes was the key for this.

I agree that the best thing to do would be to try to put it on the car to see if it would fit. When I bought my 73 it had a spare tire. One day when doing some cleaning and detailing I found out the rim was not a stock corvette rim, but some after market rim, similar to the situation you are facing. I took off the stock rally rim, and tried on the spare tire. It would not fit and hit the caliper. I ended up buying a spare corvette rally rim and new tire for my spare tire. You may end up in the same situation. Better knowing now before you get a flat and end up stranded.

Now that you mention it, you kick-started my brain, and you're correct!

I doubt it, the bolt pattern is the same, but the C-3 Corvettes have really big calipers, and that will cause an interference issue....

That wheel was the optional rally wheel on 83-87 Malibu's, El Camino's and Monte Carlo's. I think it came in both 14" and 15" versions. The back spacing was likely 3.75".

I don't know if they'll clear the Corvette calipers or not. The GM A-bodies used a single piston, floating caliper.

G'day Guys,
Thanks for that info. I did try the wheel on my vet yesterday afternoon and it fits and
clears the calliper on the rear, so I am assuming that it will be ok for the front as well.
I know, I know, to assume makes an *** out of u and me, but hey I'll take the chance
and live dangerously.

Did you try turning the wheel, with it firmly bolted in place????

G'day Guys,
Just thought I would let you know, we did a 515 mile return trip on the weekend from Brisbane, Qld to Tenterfield, NSW, didn't have any issues with the car and got around 21mpg. Very happy - L46 with 600 holley with vac secondaries.
