Default Rear emblem letters 1970 please see pic

Looked at this 70 today.

Appears the original holes have been filled in, but why? How much of a PITA is it to locate correct hole position, drill and then instal the right emblem letters?

Car is pretty clean other than this unfortunate issue.

Thanks!

edit: Just found an old thread and it appears you need to remove the spare and also one muffler in order to get the fuel tank out so you can get to get access. Then you have to have a template and do some careful drilling. Wow what a f'ing mess.

Rhetorical question? The owner added a different rear letter kit.

I was just speculating on whether the panel had been replaced or what.

Hi TMU,
I think there's enough room to use a small pin vise with a small short bit to re-drill the holes from the back side of the panel IF you can see them.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

My hunch says No, unless there was collision damage to repair. Replacing that panel is more involved than it looks. Easier to patch over the stock holes. It's possible the original holes could be visible from the rear of the pael as in Alan's pic.

That is an early C4 emblem. They are peel and stick and have 3 or 4 locating pins cast into them. I'll bet there are holes drilled into the panel that you will have to fill in. If you are lucky then the owner ground down the pins and simply used the peel and stick tape to apply it to the car.
The C4 emblems come off with a hair dryer and a plastic putty knife. Some use dental floss or fishing line to loosen them.
Good luck!

I'm just amazed that someone would name their company; Fairly Reliable Bobs.

Did not realize there would be locating pins on the C4 emblem. Damn there could be wrong holes underneath requiring filling and then paint. Glad you mentioned it, I will need to price it into any offer.

Thank you!

Yeah I always get a laugh out of it. They actually have a pretty good reputation.

That black emblem looks pretty good with the yellow paint. Rather than mess with it, why not just leave it 'as is'?

I just test drove the car and now I am not sure I want to pursue. Has a ZZ4 which is not pulling that strong and also some other operational issues and of course the emblem.
