Default Best tire look - 82 claret with aluminums

All,
I am going to try the Cooper Cobras on this car. I cannot decide on going with the white letters out...or black letters out. I am having trouble visualizing the respective looks.
Opinions please?

Oh, I will be going with the upsize 255-60-15.

I did a lot of research when I was deciding on my paint color. (Was frost beige) My car has the Weld wheels, the others are just images I found online.

Agreed. Whites out!

Watch for tire rub on the front in the 82 with the 255s though. They look great in the back though.

1 more vote for whites out. Pace Car rims are a perfect accent for your paint. But then, I'm kinda prejudiced

The 1982 was specifically designed for P255's. 76% (19,000 were built with them and all `82's were built with the same wheelhouse clearance. If there is any rubbing in the slightest it is probably a problem with a lower-than-designed suspension caused intentionally or with age, and not related to any design shortcomings. Or, a tire size defect. My bone stock `82 with P255 Goodyears, and now BFG's has never once rubbed. I would not warn off `82 owners about installing P255's if the car's suspension has not been tampered with.

p.s. nice photo!

Back in the 80's I would have preferred white letters showing, but in the new millennium I prefer black walls...

It IS apparently an issue (I know another 82 owner who runs 255s and has the same rubbing on turns) which is why I mentioned it. So I stand by my comment-at least find out if the car's clearance is stock. Mine looks tight with the 255s (they came to me that way). The inner wheel well lining rubs and is wearing through because of the greater width.

Yes-possibly age or intentional lowering, but my '82 was delivered with 225s stock (see window sticker below) and the door and factory spec is 225. 19,000 delivered with 255s? That's almost the whole run with a non-spec tire.

The 255s look great in the rear though!

Depends on the color, with yours with or without would look good.

My mine I think the redlines look great but I wanted a better tire.

This is a easy fix, that will make everyone happy. Keep the white letters out on the driver side, and the black sidewalls out on the passenger side. No one will every see both sides at the same time.
