First Ice Cream of 2015
This is my infamous drive of 100 miles to get a home-made ice cream cone. I have done this for several years. The late morning was 70*F without a cloud in the sky. So what's a retired old fart to do under these circumstances? Well, drive the Corvette! They even reserved a parking spot for me as in previous years.
The old 1974 ran very well. The temp gauge ran a pretty consistent 190*F at speeds of 50-75mph. T-stat is 180. Voltage and oil pressure were fine. I enjoy these mechanically uneventful outings. I hit two radar traps but was within 2mph of the limit so no harm done.
The Wife did the boutique thing for about 45 minutes while I watched small town Canada do its thing where everybody knows everybody. All-in-all a grand trip and a lot of fun.
A local lady chastised me for eating in such a fine-looking car. She actually seemed serious?

Hi Paul,
!!!!
Must be early…. no flowers in the window boxes yet! At least the benches are out front.
Hope you get to return at least several times this summer.
Good Luck as you put the miles on.
Regards,
Alan
Had to look up what a Tourtiere is.

Alan,
A tourtiere is a traditional French-Canadian meat pie, typically with a veal/pork/beef filling. I make it from scratch using only beef as the Wife is allergic to pork products. I do cheat and buy the pie crusts from the supermarket. I like it served with peppercorn sauce/gravy.

Of course it ran well. It's maintained by somebody that actually cares about such things .
Good you got an auto
It's hard to eat a cone and shift gears , and not end up with ice cream in your lap.

100 miles is a long way to go for ice cream ... unless you're driving a Corvette!
Unfortunately, my first trip for ice cream only involved a Jeep ... fortunately it also involved an attractive woman so life is good.

As an aside, we will be celebrating 40 years of marriage later this month. And 30 years of driving Corvettes. A mortgage got in the way of the first 10 years. So I made do with an AMC Gremlin X 304cid V8 with a TorqueFlite transmission. And Levis interior. Actually it was a fun car.
Looks like a few days in Boston. We will fly down. I love that City.

The ice cream is just a ploy although I enjoy it. The drive in an old Corvette is the real treat. When the 350 hummms along on those country roads watching the farmers put in the spring crops, so do we. My Wife's family farmed for over 120 years. That came to an end in 2010 when her Father passed away. The farm (~160 acres dairy) was sold.

Yes and yes. When we hummed down the highway at 70mph today with nary a fart or hiccup in ignition or fuel delivery I have backed off on my normal policy of fixing things until they are broken. I pulled out one of the Delco R45TS plugs later and it was a nice tan color. The tail pipes (true dual exhaust) are a nice light grey on each side. So I am shying away from fooling about. Sometimes when you have a hobby you can go a little too far when it is not necessary. You have to wonder at times what perfection really is. I thought I saw it today. The Iridium plugs "may" be better. I really do not know. Perhaps I will get more inspired in June to experiment.

I thought my wife and I were the only ones to do the ice cream runs in the Corvette except you have us beat on the mileage. We usually choose a nice warm summer evening and with the top down head out looking for a new ice cream stand or just hit the locals but were both ice creamholics and no , my wife is still not fat ! I don't think I am !

Thanks for listening. It was a terrific drive today. Getting out in these old cars can be just as satisfying to arrive home without mechanical event and parking it. That old piece of Tupperware got me home again, no problem. And D*** they look great because they are beautiful cars. I did an Adam's job when I got home today although it was not needed. Love the look. See you next week! This weekend promises rain so garage time for now. Thanks for your comments.
