Default Siphoning out gas. 1980 Corvette.

I want to siphon out the corn gas I put in the car last August and replace it with non ethonal gas. Are there going to be baffles to work around? What's the danger of hitting the sender and harming it? I will just be inserting a hose with a hand pump. Thanks.

I siphon gas out of my '82 all the time using a 5' length of 3/8" low pressure hydraulic hose. There's no danger of bending the float arm because its several inches to the right of the fill hole. How much gasoline do you need to remove? You can stick a hose into the fill hole then measure how far up the hose the gasoline is. Two inches would be about 5 gallons.

It's going to be around 12 gallons. Fuel gauge is showing on half tank.

I have a length of clear nylon tubing, about 5', attached to a 12" length of that chromed copper line you see under your kitchen/bath sink from the shutoff.
Gives me something straight to guide to the deepest part of the tank and the clear tubing lets me see the gas coming before I get a mouthfull
No pump necessary.

An easy way to drain a car with a mechanical fuel pump like a 1980 C3 is to disconnect the fuel line at the fuel pump inlet. It should gravity drain there so be ready to catch it.

I'm guessing I haven't heard the rest of the story, but why not drive the car and burn the gas, then fill up? Easiest way I know to drain a tank.

True, but it's hard to work around the rain.
