Ride Height 1973
Hello, I am considering taking a look at this car for my wife. It is listed about 2 hours from my home. My question here is does it appear that the body is sitting pretty high in relation to the top of the tires? I have looked at a few pictures of cars being sold here and this one seems to look kind of high. Does anyone have an opinion or know the standard gap between top of tire and wheel well?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Here is a pic of my project at stock ride height........its not much different than your photo........
The car in your photo might sit higher to prevent the bottom of the side pipes from scraping on speed bumps or when hitting potholes.....or those might be smaller diameter tires on the car.
It isn't difficult to "lower" the body to suit your style....in the pic below I lowered the front so there is only a 1.5" gap........
Later............I lowered the rear of the body by installing longer spring bolts.

That's a possible reason about the side pipes. I'll ask him. Ad says its got a new interior, newer paint and a new 350 although I don't know yet if it was a new crate motor. car has 52K miles.

Hi 1PC,
I agree that the car in your picture is displaying a ride height not typical of what it was when it left St.Louis by several inches.
A typical measurement from the ground to the center of the wheel arch was 28". The size/height dimension of the tires being used can affect this measurement.
The 'sitting high' is often caused by work on the front and rear suspension including replacing original springs with some of different specifications.
Taking a look under the car should give you some hint as to what's been worked on, but likely not exactly what's been done.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I spoke with the guy who owns the car this morning. He is not aware of it sitting high and thought it might be the picture. I will ask him to measure. The current owner is a retired guy who is a Ford enthusiast. He stated he bought the car on speculation from the owner who had all the work done. (I think this means he's not going to be willing to go to low on the price as I was hoping to get it for a 10-12K cash.)
The motor is a new GM crate 350. He states its a turn key car with no problems other then it was an AC car but the AC is not in the car. Not sure what that would cost me. I could do the work myself since no AC would not go over to well with my wife.

Hi 1pc,
I'm pretty sure it's "not just the picture"!
It appears the tires on the car may not be 70 series tires which usually indicates their overall height is less than the original F70 tires.
This can ALSO contribute to the 'empty wheel-well' look.
The 60 series tire that's close to the height of the F70 tire is a 255-60.
Just what's been done to the suspension on this car may not really matter to you until you need to work on the suspension/steering. Then it's nice to know what you actually have.
