Default Wet exhaust wraps - run engine to dry?

I'm about to install a new dual exhaust with headers. Some hot rod guys at work recommend that I soak the wrap before I install it. Yes... I was planning on doing that. But one guy suggested that after the wrap has been installed, to ensure that the wrap conforms tightly around the pipes, I should run the engine afterwards to dry out the exhaust and cause it to shrink. Is this valid?

Thats the way I've always done it but mostly because of time contraints. Seems to work, smokes for a bit and smells but other than that no issues.

After a day or two the wrap dries on it self.
Also if you use the high temperature paint on the wrap, as I do, it should be heated three times, each time at a higher temperature.

I use the wrap on the pipes, not on the headers. My headers are ceramic coated.
