before you gut it, you may want to see what you can get for it as scrap...some of those fetch >$200, depending on how much platinum is in there...if there is enough good metal left, you can cut both ends off, sell the cat, and use the ends to have a test pipe made.

the more i think about it, the more i think he should take the cat to a muffler shop and have a test pipe fabbed to match it. or just buy 2 flanges with pipe to fit his exh system if they are reluctant to make it up for him. some day he is gonna sell the car. and the buyer might want the option of getting it to pass emissions...

I hadn't thought about it in that way. My main goal in any case, is to remove the cat and get a straight pipe. I prefer not to gut it and have it remain. I just have to find the best way to get a pipe made up. You guys have given me a few good ideas. Thanks for the help.

best way is really to buy the front half of 74-older dual exhaust...why run y-pipe any more anyway?

Again great suggestion! I am feeling Alzheimer's kicking in as I did not think of either of your suggestions!

ebay. corvette central. both front pipes for 125 plus 20 shipping. you would still have to do some fudging to connect to the rear after the split. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-1974-Corvette-2-2-1-2-Auto-Small-Block-Front-Exhaust-Pipe-Hi-Performance-/351476958834?fits=Year%3A1974|Model%3ACo rvette&hash=item51d5a8c672&vxp=mtr

looks like same people have the intermediate pipes for 105 plus 20 ship more. so new real dual exh for about 275 and you can keep stock emissions exhaust intact for spare-sale time...or sell the cat for a big chunk of the new stuff price.

Check this eBay listing link. Not so much THIS pipe, but you can contact the seller and see if he can fab what you're looking for. Good luck.

Default Test pipe, how too

We made them for almost everything...cut the pipe out and carry it to a parts store that has an exhaust pipe bender or to a muffler shop and if their worth their salt can make you one for a few bucks out of exhaust pipe tubing...Done right it will only be a 10 minute job

These machines bend, expand, and can reduce the ends if if necessary...Ours is a Ben Pearson machine....Look it up and get a clearer picture on what to look for......

Why not do yourself a favor and just go to a good muffler shop and have a nice, good flowing dual setup put on? It will sound like a real car.

Thank you
If you're going to keep the Vette, I'd replace the stock pipes with a set of 1973 pipes. I did it on my 75 when I bought it new. Stock bolt up hangers work. You'll just need a pair of pipe expanders at the mufflers (if they are stock) . The 73s are slightly smaller diameter than the stock 75s, but there was no mechanical issues and the performance was enhanced, real cackling dual exhausts. Just my thoughts.
