Default What is this part? Sardine can?

I'm curious about an item in my engine bay. ('75, original small block) Here's some pics.

It looks like an elongated sardine can, mounted to the passenger side firewall. It has two wires going to it, and it seems like there might be some kind of spring inside it when you wiggle it.

Both wires are tapped into the wires going to the push-pin switch in the second pic.

What the heck is it?

Looks like a motion detector from back in the day. Not factory.

Wow! I remember them. After market alarm motion sensor. The screw on the top was used to adjust the sensitivity.
