Potential new owner. Wanting opinions on value.
Here's the ad.

I know that year wasn't a stingray.
A couple google searches tell me that edelbrock 350's sell for 4 to 7 k depending on how they're built. I will admit I'm not a wrencher, my terminology will fail but what is that thing coming out of the hood? Hypercharger?
Sounds like the whole interior needs redone but I found the corbeau seats go for over 1k new. Are there many aftermarket parts that could be used to restore the interior or am I just looking at paying an upholsterer 2 or 3 grand?
I've heard some things on vettes when they go, the car is done, anything I should be looking at when I inspect it.
Any input appreciated.

What is your goal for this Corvette? If you want a thrashed Bubba-ized car, this is it.
If you're looking for a nice Corvette, I'd pass.
I noticed this car has California plates on it. How did it pass CA emissions? How will you get it to pass?
California requires all vehicles to undergo a smog inspection EXCEPT:
•Gasoline-powered vehicles model year 1975 and older.
EDIT: I just noticed that while the car has CA plates, the ad indicates Lindon, UT.

Thanks for the response Revi, I read the sticky by Chstitans42 and it gave some helpful things to look for.
I work from home, it'd be just a toy for me. I know from experience how difficult it can be to get it to pass emissions from my 79 ford but there is still a carb expert in town I rely on. Now granted he doesn't give his work away. I'm assuming this machine doesn't have cats but if the engine is new and the carbs are done right it should be ok.
She said it was stored for 10 years in a storage unit but the rusted out pipe has me worried this thing wasn't always covered.

I am skeptical on a couple of issues.
1. A set of Edlebrock valve covers do not make it an Edlebrock engine. you need to check the serial numbers of the engine to the invoice to check that out.
2. She says it has never been run 1 mile with the new engine. So how did the engine get so dirty?
3. I searched for Edlebrock engine pricing and found the price to be in the range. But all the engines I saw had black painted blocks. The photos show a dirty corporate blue color, which makes me think its not an Edlebrock engine.
4. Door panels are expensive. T top liners are expensive. Look at the T Top center bar in the photo. its split. That should be replaced. If these parts look like this, then I would suspect the dash also looks the same. Basically its a gutted interior.
And the thing coming out of the hood is an air scoop or hood scoop bolted to the carburetor. The engine does not have a supercharger on it. Its just an after market air scoop. This sells for $100 - $200.

I guess because I joined through Facebook the mods have to approve my posts so I signed up with an email address. I'm matthew bowman, the op.
To Revi, it'd be a toy / pleasure. I work from home so I wouldn't need it to commute. The car is in Utah, the fact it was a California car gives hope that the bird cage is in good shape.
To kdf, She said the thing was stored for the past 10 years, I also saw this link and I think the reason she had a mechanic look at it is to get it running after it sat. She said it's emanating a smell off the engine which apparently they do when brand new and they're just heating up due to the sealants/coatings on the engine being heated.

Even at $4k I'd think twice. IMO you're better off spending a little more, for a better car, than buying something like this and dumping a load of money in it.

Matthew,
Please have the car inspected by a reputable Corvette Inspector that can help you assess what this car is, and its value.
There is more wrong with the ad than there is right, in my opinion, and only an inspection in person by a person of knowledge will sort out what the issues may really be for this car.
If you cannot have it inspected then pass, plenty of good ones around.
Here is my 496 Cu. In. big block Corvette engine that didn't cost me $5,500 to build, so I question the Edelbrock value statement.
My two cents, and best of success with your decision.

Car is a complete POS with few, if any, redeeming qualities
Assigned value is less than half the asking price
Assessment fee: $6.99 or one six pack of Dos Equis

From the ad I'd say the car is a real POS. The car is also only about 10 miles from my house if you really wanted someone to look at it. For $8k you can do much better.

Hi Matthew,
WELCOME! I'm glad you found the CF.
I believe you can find a car for you that's a much wiser choice than this one.
I though the interesting line was "This Vette has not been driven a full mile with the new engine and transmission. It DOES run." I guess she's getting tired of having to walk because the car hasn't gotten more than just a short distance from home yet.
Continue learning about 68-82 cars and looking at what's being offered at what prices and you'll get a sense as to what decent cars are being bought for.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

The thing coming out of the hood is nothing more than an air filter cover.
Other than the hole in the hood and that rear spoiler, the body and paint look pretty clean.
There's no way to verify what's in the engine so no increased value there.
If you can get the price is right it may not be a bad deal.
