Default Bonneville Salt Flats

I took the Corvette to the Bonneville Salt Flats this morning for some photos. It was a beautiful morning and the salt was really dry and smooth. I only drove out about 75 yards as slow as I could to keep salt from getting under the car. It was very tempting to open her up and do a all out run but some how I resisted.

Hopefully, your first stop, after you left the flats, was a wash rack with underbody spray. There is no way to keep salt from getting to the frame, etc, once you've driven on [loose] salt.

Once again great shots of the ride and surrounding area. What camera and lens do you use. And how did you that above the car shot, unless of course you're ten feet tall

Love it.....man and machine become one with nature.
Best backdrop I've ever seen.
I'd have to flat out my 68 BB if I went out there.

There was no visible salt on the car. The salt was like concrete and I drove very slow. I did spend 3 hour washing the underside just to be sure.

Thank you. I have wanted to go there with a cool car spence reading a article in hot rod when I was in high school about the salt flats. camera is a canon 5d mk II lens 24-70 2.8 l and a 50 1.2 l. In the middle of a move so my desktop computer is packed so can't do the editing I want to do right now.

My wife and I spend a lot of time on the salt every year, but I've never had my Corvette with me.

Made a few adjustments to this one. I think it's my favorite.

Looks like fun! I have always thought it would be fun to build a old hot rod to run on the salt flats.

I just couldn't run the car there and get all that salt on it. I did think about it and when there was some guy in a new Nissan Maxima out there and Toyota had 4 18 wheelers with cars that had Toyota racing with a big auto x set up it really was tempting to run all out. I live a few miles from miller motor sports and get the car out on the road course a lot so I do get times to really play with the car.

I am moving soon and will be driving the car 1600+ miles and hope to get some good photos of the car on the way.

Default Bonneville Salt Flats

If you stay on the salt where it's packed hard and drive slow (5 mph) getting the salt off is easy and not an issue. Now if you run over 200 mph it usually takes us several hours to get the salt off for a return run. Also if you drive where the salt is soft it's like sticky mud and makes a mess. Speedweek and World of Speed were cancelled this year because the salt was in such poor condition. With a little luck we'll have our cars out in two weeks to make some test runs.

Stupid question, ... can you just show up and drive out onto the hard packed salt areas? If so maybe i need to make a road trip.
