Default 5/6-speed Options, Group Buy Interest

I just spoke w/ Jeff Kauffman at Silver Sport Transmissions, SST. They had offered a group buy for forum members in August, but got ZERO replies, calls, or emails.

Is there any interest out there besides me?

They will have a 6- speed kit ready in 4 weeks. And have true-fit, drop-in, no-mod 5-speed kits ready to ship.

I haven't decided on the 5 or 6 spd yet, but am leaning towards the 5spd TKO. Only because I am not sure I want to cut out and replace the crossmember in my convertible's 45 year-old frame.

Thoughts?

If we can get 10+ buyers, we may still be able to get the original offer. Discount, payment options, etc.

See his post in the Vendors section for more info

if you had some numbers it might be more compelling. I've given passing thoughts to replacing my 4 spd with a 6. it would probably be after the new year for the money though.

I am thinking about this, auto to TKO/5 speed. Would be a good winter project now that I have my lift.

I would be interested in a close ratio TKO600 to replace my 4 speed if the price/payment options are right.

Default 10-10-10 payment

Looks like they have a 10% down, then 10% of the remaining balance monthly for 10 months, ships after the final payment. I will probably do that, then pay it off in January and get it installed by February. Had to buy 2 new HVAC systems last fall, They will be paid off in 2 weeks and free up a bunch of cashflow for me!!

I dont remember the detailed parts list, but $4003 for everything I wanted from them, with manual clutch. No cutting. .64 overdrive.

I have a '70 vert, 350/350 L-46 with 3.70 rear and a '72 muncie that is not correct anyway. So the OD is more important to me for road trips.

Hope we can get enough people to commit and get a discount!

Looks like the essentials kit with upgraded synchros is about $3100. A little more than I hoped but I'll see if I can start saving up.

Replaced my 4 speed Muncies with a TKO600 five speed. Both 68 and 70 Vettes. Just beautiful! The 68 dropped from about 3000 rpm at 60 mph to about 1500 (?) rpm at 6o mph. Haven't driven the 70 yet.

Love the really easy shift. It's a perfect fit into a C3, however I had my tranny crossmember section so when, and if, I do tranny work, I can easily drop the tranny.

What is your rear diff ratio?
I was really excited about getting the 6 speed, but think I'm sold on the TKO600 5speed now.
Did you go with hydraulic clutch or manual?

I'm also interested but would like to see what they can do for us with a group buy program. I never saw the advertisement or post the last time they tried this group buy thing.

Here is the original post for those that may be considering this.

We’ve had numerous requests to offer a group purchase option to Corvette Forum members over the past several months so we’ve decided to give it a go.

• What is the pricing structure for this purchase?

Regular kit prices will be discounted 10% with discounted UPS shipping rates. If two or more kits ship to the same address, even more savings can be had on shipping.
Each vehicle can be equipped differently so pricing can vary depending on the individual needs. Please request a quote by emailing me at Info@ShiftSST.com and put GROUP BUY in the subject line. Please provide detailed specs of your vehicle so I can make an accurate estimate. “1978 Corvette” will not be sufficient; I need to know the following.

1. Year, make and model if not a Corvette
2. Current trans – auto or manual
3. Current engine and power output
4. Rear axle ratio if known
5. Please advise if you need other accessories such as a hydraulic clutch
6. Please include your name and shipping address so I can accurately quote shipping costs

I will send a quote for your review and offer cannot be combined with other discounts or coupons. Example: If you already qualify for our 6% Military discount, the group buy discount is larger and voids the smaller discount.

TN residents will be required to pay sales tax as usual.

Discount applies to Tremec TKO transmission and installation kit purchases only, bare units or parts orders do not qualify.

• Who qualifies?

Any Corvette Forum member with a valid account. This is open to C1 through C4 models or any other classic car we provide kits for.

• How long does this run?

The group purchase will expire August 31st. This allows plenty of time to gather funds or get permission from your significant other.

• What is the minimum order for this to be valid?

WE MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 10 ORDERS. Once we have a confirmed minimum of 10 orders, they will begin processing. Replying to the thread with “I’m in!” will let others keep track of the tally.

• Is a deposit required?

Our business model does not rely on collection of customer deposits so a deposit is never required to order through SST.

Kits will ship complete within 3-5 business days and payment is expected once the order is packed and ready to ship.

Payment options are available here: http://shiftsst.com/terms-of-sale

• Can I use the 10-10-10 payment plan for this?

Yes. This is a popular plan and an excellent way to lock in the price if you’re not quite ready for the full purchase.

I’m available any time for questions by phone of email and can also be reached by cell phone after hours or on the weekend at 865-680-1810.

Let’s make this a success and if it works well, we may repeat it in the future!

I'll be on (home) vacation next week so feel free to call/text my cell phone with any questions, concerns or to get a custom quote.

i have 5 speeds in my 68 and 70. They are just a really great technology improvement. 3.73:1 diff and a 70 mph cruise at less than 2000 rpms. TKO600. Really smooth shifting and the interior looks completely stock with the stock shifter lever. Still have the stock 4 speed shift pattern on the shifter console. I know it's a 5 speed, no one else needs to know.

About not talking about my five speed..... I have a centrifugal supercharger on my 08. I've only told one or two people. At Corvette get togethers when the engine is idling, I've been occasionally been asked about my engine sound...I tell people that I have a noisy electric fan.

So far we have 3, I guess. That 10-10-10 payment plan looks good to me.

Anybody get 0% credit card advance offers all the time like I do? A 10% discount and shipping discount will take care of the 2-3% finance fee!

We may have 4: I dropped an email to Jeff to get a quote for a complete auto-to-manual conversion kit with a TKO600 & some options.
