Hi 4,
Check out Detail Plating by Steve Gregori.
He does various plating types that were used on our cars.

Alan
Zinc (light) and Manganese (dark) phosphate can be done at home too.
This is the phosphating process…. a heated bath (200 degrees) in a stainless steel or glass container.
It happens to be the darker manganese phosphate, zinc phosphating is the same process with a different bath.
Prepped and after the phosphating.

Hi dm,
I'd like to say "sure", but right now I'm just doing my own parts plus some parts for a couple of friends.
Sorry; if that changes I'll keep you in mind!

I have a hood latch assembly from a Camaro , it's been sandblasted to remove the rust . All clean and pretty.
Soooo.......did GM use Zinc or Manganese on their hood latches ......I had heard they were manganese ....but most people won't notice ?

For a first generation Camaro, you're probably looking at zinc phosphate. The latches and hinges/springs tended to be much lighter than anything on a Corvette. For Corvettes (1969-1972) it would be manganese phosphate. I would say 1968 is similar, but it wouldn't surprise me to see some cars with zinc phosphate plated latches.
