How much is your "prom queen" costing you?

I too am rebuilding a 68 convertible. Had it for just over a year and including the purchase price I'm up to 22k so far. It had some major body issues and that accounts for most of the money I've spent. So, next is prepping for primer and eventually paint. I'm getting close to the engine and transmission install so more parts will be needed there. More money. Yay. I'm keeping close track of what I spend because I know my wife will if I don't.

Anyway I am quite happy with my choices. Have ~$30k (thats a guesstimate, not really keeping track) in the Vette and loved spending every penny....and nothing is more therapeutic than going out for a brisk run or nodding off on the creeper under the car on a pleasant saturday afternoon.

I'm sorry but it`s a labour of love for me. I can tell you what every little piece or part cost on any of my cars but I would never add it all up. That may end the love affair!

^^^^THIS^^^^ and golf for that matter, which I gave up for the Stingray and a few Les Pauls! A buddy of mine wanted me to join the local golf club, $10k for initiation and $250/mo + $480/qtr food and beverage minimum. Golf is great therapy he says....or NOT if you SUCK!

Hilarious and very true. A project that either you'll eventually get to drive (hopefully before you die), or when it feels like it, you get to drive it and then it talks to you, in that language that only a C3 owner understands: 'Rattle-rattle, squeak, bump........ clunk.... clunk, thump, thump."

I don`t keep track, I don`t WANT to know! She gets whatever she wants and THEN some. This is why....
(Copied from another member`s post)
She is sooooo sexy.....curves to die for, she usually runs around topless. Hot and ready...begging to get crazy and go for a long ride. Sleek, flowing, graceful, breath taking.....she turns heads at every corner..... sometimes a little quirky, kinda of expensive to maintain. She'll haunt you in your dreams....make you do things that you didn't think you would......stay up nights... skip meals...spend money you don't have...she'll make you cry, cuss, throw things and bleed. I really don't like when she isn't at her best. You'll LOVE her...and then you'll HATE her....but, because she's yours, you always make up....and you know how much fun making up can be. You buy her things to make her even more beautiful than she naturally is...you pamper her, and coddle her, caress her, massage her....she is after all, very special! When someone says something about her or is admiring her...it's OK. But, don't stare or drool, DO NOT TOUCH her..... and if you insult her, it is ON!
I love listening to her......she purrs in my ears....and on those lonely hot nights, we just enjoy being together, the wind in our face and the world fading in the dark behind us.....
I look at others and sometimes lust in my mind..... how can so many be so perfect....different colors...various shapes...some are old and worn...but, even then they still demand more than a casual glance. I can't really explain it.....I don't know how to express it....SHE has captured my heart......and I love our C3

i bought my 72 two years ago. previous owners frame off restored her in 2000-2001, stuck her in a garage, and only put a couple thousand miles on her over the next 13 years.
in the two years i've been the owner i've had to,
replace valve cover gaskets (leaking)
replace oil pan gasket and rear main seal. (leaking)
both exhaust manifold gaskets (leaking)
replace the radiator, hoses, and thermostat. (leaking)
battery
alternator (failed)
starter (failed)
power steering pump, gear, valve (leaking - replaced all those with a borgesson kit)
rebuilt 4 speed trans, new clutch (grinding 3rd gear)
trans mount (collapsed)
it seemd that for the first year and a half of ownership it was nickle and diming me to death but for the last 6 months it's been trouble free and very reliable.
i credit the repairs needed to the car to the previous owners because they just didnt drive it enough and was expecting all of it except for the trans rebuild.
even though some of us pay a premium for a restored car, you never know.

Safety Car
500 a month for the past 5 months after purchase of my 82
and the car had "service" records, new engine, trans, rear end, front rear suspension, most anything it needed.fro the PO
but
there is a big difference between taking to a "shop" (PO)
vs
me doing all the work myself, the car is more glued ( cohesive) together from the latter.

Nice to hear an honest answer .
It's a hobby ......it costs to have fun ....no matter the activity.
Anyway.......if anybody on here has ever owned and maintained horses. Then you understand like me what .....REAL money down the hole is
Corvettes and Boats are money in the bank compared to the horse owning hobby.

Had my '72 for just over a year and so far new tyres all round £850, carb rebuild and a basic service £400, new water squirter pump £120 and I've just ordered a full SS exhaust £1450. It's pretty sorted as it sits now so hopefully that'll be it for a while

Burning Brakes
This question along with "What gas mileage do you get", don't concern me.
I never have bought a Corvette for practical, or economical reasons.
The only reason I would keep track of it, is if I was into flipping these cars as a business.
