Default C3'ers - Have you ever noticed?

Ok, maybe it's a Michigan thing because of it's highest density of Corvette registrations in the US (I read that on the Internet, so it must be gospel), but have you guys noticed that C3'ers almost ALWAYS wave a greeting/acknowledgement to one another? It doesn't matter what age-band of the drivers, up comes a wave. We may quibble among ourselves, a couple like old women here, but in the outside world we're proudly bonded. What a hoot and a treat for the general driving public when a couple of us fall in behind one another on the same winding road. Smiles, good feelings and occasional honks all around. I judged at a 230 car Corvette show last summer and noticed the C3 guys/spouses sharing the best tall stories and clearly having fun despite the day's heat.
The C4's always wave, too and so far the C7's are showing promise. But, here there's only about a 60% chance that a C5 or C6 is gonna give up a wave, and they'll often lock eye contact without so much as an expression as they drive by. What's up with that? It's even happened a few times with C2's.

So, thanks for sharing your enjoyment for our enthusiasts hobby both off AND on the road. Something our C-something cousins don't always seem to get. Theories are welcome.

That is similar to motorcycle riders BUT.......most Harley riders wave to each other/few Harley riders wave to Ricers.

I think Ego plays a big part of it.

It would be good if ALL Vette owners waved though.

Believe it or not I've had C5 and C6 guys wave at me in my C3. I guess C7 owners are too busy still trying to figure out how to work the clutch to wave.

I find almost everyone in any corvette waves or some type of acknowledgement. I also ride a Harley and I goota tell you, the "wave" can be a pain after a while. And we dont wave to ricers. The is a HARLEY sign only. Damn we're snobs

In Belgium US car driver just wave at every other US car due to the 'rarity'. Happens in the RAM & Corvette. In general oldtimers you cross on the road just wave whether it's a beetle, old 911, Triumph, Jag, Mustang, Chevy, Dodge, ... which is pretty cool and Always puts a smile on my face.

Default I wave!

I wave all the time. When my wife is riding shotgun, she is my spotter. Sometimes I get a wave back, sometimes I don't.

I have a C2, C3, C4, C5 and a C6 so I don't care about genaration.

I do want to add a C1 and C7 but the garage needs to be expanded first.

We get a lot of waves and return one as always but, the new vette owners will catch on sooner or later. Keep waving at them until they catch on. I get the thumb from all other drivers.

I am a C1 guy - and I am thrilled every time a newer generation 'vette owner waves - and recognizes my old car as a Corvette

When I'm driving in my 1970, I wave at pretty much ANY car that demonstrates a passion for automobiles. If it's loud, fast, and clearly took time, care, attention, and money to create, I wave to it. That includes the occasional Japanese car.

If the person driving sees me, I invariably get a wave back. If he isn't waving at me already...

I had a guy in a C7 pull up next to me and yell across, "Boy...I wish I could have one of those." Talk about an ego booster. We chatted for a few...he was sincere about his sentiment. Also demonstrates his knowledge that maintaining a C3 takes a fair amount of effort.

Driving my car usually puts me in a happy place.

I too live in Michigan and I get waves in either my C3 or C6. I also wave to everyone in classics. I do think the newer Corvettes are not as distinctive and are harder to identify from a distance. The C1 to C5 are easier to spot from a distance. Just my opinion.

That is a beautiful car! Love the C1 and looking over the long front end from the drivers seat.

You're kidding, right!? That's akin to Paul McCartney recently quoted saying "I'm thrilled when when the newer bands acknowledge me [at the Grammys]. The C3's are a slice of heaven. But, C-1's - they're rolling royalty!

Nice that you would say that. Thank you!
But you would be surprised at how many people at the ice cream shop ask me what year my T-bird is ....

No way - not with that color, that grill and those coves - the signature points that legends are made of! Try finding an automotive classics coffee table book that doesn't have a C-1 gracing it's pages. Even in the European books.
I proudly work for the Ford Motor Company and the original T-Bird is also legendary. But, it was a 'fast follower', making its own special niche. The C-1 is the original, original. Like I said, it's automotive royalty.. and, where Zora and his predecessors first started it all for us C-3 loyalists. Waving at C-1's is a somewhat rare privilege these days.

Btw, a C1 exactly like yours won the C1 trophy at our car show last summer - a fellow from western Michigan drove his near perfect car (except for minor rust on his master cylinder filler cover) the 200 mile round trip, including freeways.

I still blame the lack of "the wave" on air conditioning! I think people get cocooned in their AC pods, turn up the tunes and tune out the rest of the world. The more AC the fewer waves!

Agreed, global warming must be the reason for cocooning!

Ding, ding, ding, ding......spot on! I also have a C5Z and also drive with the a/c on. I try to wave when I see another Vette but I doubt they see me with the window up and slight tint on window.

When driving my C-1 or C-3 I have windows down top down/ t-tops off and it is much easier to wave howdy. I think these are friendlier cars.
