Default Pic - 15 brand new '75's

I recently bought a slide scanner and am starting to put thousands of slides on the computer. I came across this carload of new '75's and thought C-3 General would get a kick of seeing it. Sorry about the dirt spots, I have not yet learned how to clean them up.

Looks like they had those vans protected very well, while the vettes were in the wide open?

The railcars gradually evolved, and it was probably just a case of which one was handy at the time. Today they are all enclosed and you can't tell whether it's Corvettes or Kias inside.

Wonder how many of those 15 are around today, of course there's no way to know without serial numbers.

The only thing I can say is they were rolling east through Rochester NY, and the train did not stop here. I don't know where they were billed to or where those cars could be unloaded. My guess would be Albany NY, NYC, and Boston probably all had auto unloading ramps but I'm not positive.

I misplaced the slide already but if it has a date on it I'll edit this to tell it.

Very cool.

What are the chances someone had a CAMERA on them when that train crossed their path. Not like today when your phone will snap a pic.

Picture? You would have multiple videos.

I had a bit of an advantage, as I worked for the railroad and knew a certain train was the one which usually had a carload - or sometimes two carloads - of Vettes. And I also knew the approximate time it came through town, although there were two different routes it could take.

If I remember correctly all these years later, I happened to have my camera in the car, with film, when I got stopped at the crossing. Realizing this MIGHT be NY-6, I watched carefully. When I saw the car of Vettes coming, I opened the door, stepped out and fired the shot, then got back in the car.

The other thing that is different today is that now I would fire off a half dozen shots as the car went by because digital is free. Back then you paid for the film and paid again for the processing, so I tended to be a bit more frugal with how many pics I took.

Ain't that the truth! When scanning in some of my old photos, I realize how lucky we are today with cameras since if you aren't sure, take a few more. At work, I have to take pictures of various parts of the drill machine I work on. I have over 1000 photos of parts, many duplicated, simply because it is easy to take a second or third just in case it isn't showing what I want.

With film, you took it and didn't know until it developed that something went wrong, like the bird flying past the lens, or the battery dying on the exposure meter so you just washed out, or whatever.

I am restoring a '66 Chevy truck, and I'm in the dis-assembly phase right now. Before I take any part off I take 2 or 3 digital pics from various angles I probably have 200 pics already. No way you could do that with film unless you had cubic dollars. Especially since once the project is done, 99% of the pics will be deleted anyway.
