I don't know what to do here.

I wish they would have some construction pictures so we can see how the bumpers attach and if they have a front kit. I would only do it if I could do the front and back.

Here is an interesting angle for you......
I bought this and built an engine that should throw 410-420 at the tire....
It was a complete VERY nice car with full VBP mono Front and Rear suspension.....I will have less than 28k into this when complete.....
That includes my engine, new clutch, powder coating, P/S pump, and a bunch of other stuff......
I am almost finished and it is going to be a well rounded, fast as s**t Canyon Burner.....
I did not have to paint or do ANY interior to this.....this has been a great project....rubber and glass were perfect as was the trim....I had to fix the wiper door stuff...but no biggie.....the engine that came with it was out of balance...and had other issues.....
I built a 406 for it......read the thread for more info.....

Thats a great car and pretty much what I will be looking for. But I am BB guy. Any car I have had has a BB in it. This 80 is the only small block I have had in 25 years. MY GTO even has a 540 chevy in it.

Well it's been about 2 months of looking and the cars I found in my price range have not been so great. Most need paint and interior. I really don't want to do body work on another car and paint it. I also don't want another 3 year project. I am leaning towards keeping my 80, the car has everything done to it already. And dumping the 25k I have into it. Replacing the motor, trans and rear. Some new wheels and maybe better brake system.

Back around 09 my nerves are giving me hell and my wife Tina says which one of these cars ( the back yard was full of kits parts vettes etc is your favorite, why not sell all the yard art and get what you really want, stop settling,
I thought about it a night or two and took her advice sold off all the yard art and started hunting want I wanted, a c3 convertible, I wanted bb but didn't care that much about anything else, the car I got silly and sold was my first vette a 72 hopped up bb convertible I always missed it no matter what other vette I owned, it was a noisy hot beast that I loved so I decided 68-72 and ended up with the 69 that tina actually found and I jumped on ebay,
I am not a cat blessed with being able to toss money at things to make them happen,
the 69 needed lots to be the car I wanted it to be but I didn't pay for stuff I didn't want like a small block engine that would get swapped for that bb, and if you read my posts you know I build cheap.
I owned two 81's very much like 80's both DD and I do love the 80-82 style the first around 88/89 hit 100 k miles and I rebuilt it and added a wide body kit and insane small block but the car wasn't that 72 a 68-72 is like a whole didn't creature to a later c3 especially a 80-82 which are so refined, I do not believe that anyone should settle, the 80 isnt doing it for you and if I recall correctly hasnt for a while so flip it to someone who will love it or whatever but nap the car you really want and dont look back otherwise you will never really be happy with it ( I could have bought a custom 80 convertible and didn't, I bought the 69 )

I agree with your latest assessment: keep what you have that is already in good condition...except for the BB and tougher drivetrain. Put the money into the engine/drivetrain. A nice BB crate engine, 5-speed manual or power-built 700R4 and better rear end will get you what you want. Go for it!!!

I have been looking at some 540 and 572 crate engines. Maybe a 5 speed but I would like an m-22. Also have to beef up the rear. Not much on how to beef up an 80 rear. I went to the usual sites. After all that it would give me some extra money to finish my GTO.

Forget the M-22 'rock-crusher'....it's passe'. Get a nice 5 speed with a .67 overdrive in 5th gear. You will be glad you did. That combined with a 540 (or larger) and a 3.55 rear gear will give you what you want. Don't go to the "last century" to build a car that really won't do what you want.

Do the 1980 up.. Your not looking for an investment car just a fun car to turn heads and look at people in your mirrors as you blow past them.
427 SBC . 4L80e , 4 link and every suspension part under the sun including the nuts and bolts. Even lost weight 2971 ,, And it is a daily driver .. I spent about 25k.

I believe I am really confused,
I reread some, I still get the gist you really do not like the 80 but perhaps want to be talked into building it and I also had no idea it would fetch 15K if you flipped it you could get a heck of a lot of chrome bumper c3 or a lesser one and mod it to what you want since I have no idea if you want ncrs winner or a modded chromie,
you will get people telling you to build the 80 you will get people like me telling you flip it buy what it sounds like you really want but what is the real goal what do YOU really want?

As I was redoing the 80 every job I did to it gave me a hard time to the point of really disliking working on the car. The 80 is all brand new. Paint , interior, just about every nut and bolt.
The whole thing about buying a 15k chrome bumper car is I will most likely have to do it all over again. Which would leave me with nothing to do the mods I would like to do.

You pretty much have the idea there. My 80 is all new. I was looking into the 4 link, did you do a thread on the installation.
