What's your source for this? Interesting if it's true.

In Chevy RPO codes, those starting with Z were performance packages such as Z06, Z07, ZR1, etc. still holds today, besides the Vette look at the trucks and the Z71 off road package. Also, engines are designated with an L as in LT1, L88, etc. the engine can be part of a performance package.

Where did Chevrolet get the name Corvette from,

Corvette, how did GM and Chevrolet come up with the name? Most people say that it came from a World War II warship in the British Navy. A Corvette was a fast maneuverable, lightly armed sleek warship. A Corvette is fast, maneuverable and sleek automobile. It was a natural for the name.

I always thought it came from the French Ships.

It doesn't matter what navy might have been the inspiration, the name "Corvette" signifies a class of warships like "destroyer" or "cruiser" or "battleship" or even "aircraft carrier". Most modern navies over the past 100 or so years have had versions of each of these types of warships.

This I know after spending 24 years in the US Navy on Destroyers.

If your ever up this way it's worth spending an hour on board.
