Default Deep rumbly exhaust for stock 1969 L46

I've listened to about 30 youtube videos, but so many are mixing apples and oranges due to mods on the youtube cars.

I have a stock 1969 350ci, 350hp L46, and stock mufflers are just too quiet.

Looking for deep/low, rumbling, slightly ground shaking muscle tone. I want loud, but less than completely obnoxious. I can live with some drone, but not so much that I don't want to drive the car. Don't want to put on mufflers and still have them too quiet -- once put Corsa Sports on a base C6 and was very disappointed that they were no were near loud enough so went to Borla Ataks, which still border-line not enough volume for me.

Not planning on any other mods at this time. Looking at Flowmaster: Delta Flow 40's, Super 40's Super 44's, and Magnaflow (just started looking at Magnaflows, so not sure which to look at). Currently thinking I like the Super 40's best of the Flowmasters, but seriously wanting some input on Magnaflows as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers on my car; nice deep tone with none of the drone associated with the regular 40 and 50 series Flowmaster mufflers.

I originally had Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, and was unhappy with the wimpy sound.

Have you thought about headers?

I have headers, not that it matters, and Maggy stainless muffs out back, and a crossover pipe behind the trans......

I am very happy.....from what you say, I THINK you would be also....

Best of luck.....

Hmmm. You know, I had originally been thinking about side pipes, and in that context was thinking about either hooker, dougs or obx headers. Somehow I kind of lost the thought of headers when thinking about just doing mufflers in wanting to keep the cost down. But upon reflection, in stuffy California, a significant reason I wanted a C3 before 1975 was so I could mod at will and not worry about EPA restrictions.

Interested in hearing header / muffler combo recommendations. I realize you can only do so much with just a muffler. Also wouldn't mind a little more power umph from the 350/350!

Yup, thanks.

With headers, I'd get "Is that a big block?". Plus way more low end torque! It was a good mod all around.

Chambered. Can't go wrong with chambered exhaust and an L46 with headers. Great combo. .

I am looking forward to spring and car shows because I would love to hear a chambered exhaust in person. I have seen them on you tube, but yet to see them live....sounds like a must have!

I have a stock 70 L46 with a welded N11 system from Corvette Central. I love the sound - low rumble at idle but sounds serious when you open it up. No drone.

A friend has a similar system but with Magnaflows instead of N11 mufflers, and it also sounds really good - louder and with more thump than the N11s. He also has a solid lifter 396, however. The L46 can sound really good though, being a very high compression motor (relative to most street engines of the era).

I put Doug's ceramic coated headers and MagnaFlow Mufflers on my 69' L46. Nice V8 Rumble and they do get louder as you put the miles on them.

I also have long tube headers and an H pipe, and I too thought the flowmasters I had were too quiet. So I ran no mufflers, just tailpipes with chrome tips. It wasn't as loud as I thought they would be, in fact, not as loud as my son's '02 Z06 with loudmounths. It was awesome at idle, sweet at cruising but a bit much at WOT. So after about 6 months I installed short glass pack from JC Whitney. They're great, though sometimes I wish they were a little bit louder.

I have had a chambered exhaust on my modified 350/383 for about 10 years. Great sound when you stomp on it, but livable when you don't. Installed on my '76. Idle and daily driving is s not objectionable. I have not had my roofs on for those 10 years.

Sounds like you prefer a louder sound than what most people are going for, so some of our 4" or 5" cylinder mufflers may work well for you. Cars get borderline too loud when people use them with full exhaust and headers, but if you were replacing mufflers only, they should give you what you are aiming for. If you happen to have any questions about them, feel free to shoot us a call or PM!

I have had Hedman side exhaust headers on my '69 L46 since the '70's
Recently I have been wondering about Chamberd pipes versus the original side exhaust mufflers. Particularly the sound & flow. I would love to hear others comments.

Pretty certain they are GM. Original owner added the GM stock side pipes to the car in 1972.
