Uli, Edgar,
What are you doing here??? You should be home in bed. But you're right and thanks.
Kate and I are right now in the middle of nowhere, somewhere between Spokane and Seattle, speeding along.

I know, I know, instead of *****-footing it, we put the pedal to the metal and impersonated Vanishing Point Kowalski. Instead of speed, Kate poured coffee into the driver and I guess we should change our diet to this stuff to save time:
We really drove 500 miles. Still can't believe it. The car ran like a Swiss Watch. No hiccup, nothing, just rumbling along.
Weather wise, we got everything, icy cold, scorching hot and pouring rain. Believe it or not, it was a great drive and we enjoyed it up to the part where we had to look for a motel. Seems as if Seattle was sold out on Saturday night, 320 dollars and up . We stayed in Kent in some sleezy joint but slept like babies. Off to see the sights now.
The pictures:
The road to heaven
Gasing up in the middle of nowhere
The trucks are sometimes really scary over here. I got great rain tires (Pirelli P600) but still, driving in the rain scares me sometimes.
At the end of the day
More to come by tomorrow

Thanks, again, for taking us along. So inspirational that, as you saw a few, I looked at my slides from Piggie's and my cross-country trip in 77.

This is Walt from the Portland Mayors mansion.com I was reading your post. Just wondering if you are going to make it to Portland tonight ? info@pdxmayorsmansion.com if you get time to reply. If you get to Portland in the next few days we may still have a room for you.
After our 500 miles ride on Saturday, we slowed down considerably on Sunday. Backroads only today.
When we rode into Seattle the night before, it was crazy busy, so we decided to wait for early Sunday morning to hit the spots where we wanted to take our pictures. It worked like a charm. We were able to park smack in front of Farmers Market on Pike's Place
And of course this couldn't be missed. We stopped the car more or less in the middle of the usually very busy street and got out to do our thing. Seattle is beautiful and very cool to cruise through without traffic.
On the way out we passed the Boeing factory and spotted old planes. We love old planes!!! My alltime favorite passenger plane, the Super Constellation. Has there ever been a cooler tail?
Mr. President, your car is ready

Backroads only. We drove south through Mount Rainier National park and enjoyed a couple of snow ***** at the top. This was one fantastic road to drive with the Corvette
Oh, this I have to get off my chest though, may you please forgive me as a foreigner for this rant: Dear Washingtoners, I can tell you like your weed - it sure makes for some bitchin' potholes in your streets. My teeth are still rattling from the beating our Corvette got . We have rarely encountered worse roads than here. End of rant. (but we love your state anyway)
Getting closer to Portland
And finally our out of this world B&B, the Mayor's Mansion in Portland. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw it. Beautiful place and if you ever visit Portland, stay there!!
We closed the evening with some of the best food we've had so far, a nice Pinot Noir from the region and of course a Fish Tale IPA to round things out.
That's all for today folks, we're off to the coast now.

Down to the second page!!! What's the matter with us?
Great food in Portland - back when I was a travelling fool Portlandish (Intel) and Corvallis (HP) rated multi visits a year.
Pikes Place Market (Photo with their Corvette in front of it, tho it doesn't say 'Pikes Place'. My favorite tea comes out of there from a store called 'Market Spice.'
Heading up the Columbia, and crossing over to the Washington side, there is a large optical telescope, a state park, open for public viewing. Goldendale, maybe the name of the town. Ah, yes: http://www.goldendaleobservatory.com/
So, Martin and Kate, I'm salivating for more photos...

I apologize for not posting the last 2 days. A major update will follow later today.
By the way, there ARE fantastic tires available for 15" wheels in 235/60: Pirelli P600. That's what I got on my car and they beat all those BF Goodrich, MT and whatever 10fold. I had redlines put on to them to lessen the modern tire look a little and I will NEVER go back to those awful SUV tires. If anyone is out to shop for new ones and wants to stay 15", that's the only way to go (maybe Avon, too).
