'75 A/C Questions
Getting to be that time to upgrade to 134a.
Questions for the experts, what parts are NEEDED ?
System still has some pressure, compressor cycles.
I'm sure seals, maybe hoses, but what about the VIR Eliminator Kit ?
Thanks for Your time,
Bill
I have searched the threads, clear as mud.

Any automotive AC shop can tell you what you need and make the change to R134a for you.

That's exactly why I am asking here.
The last place I stopped said $200.00 to convert, but would not elaborate on what would be replaced.
If nothing is being changed out, I'm guessing I could get a cheap vacuum pump and some Freon.
Thanks,
Bill

Thats a good link, got all the info you need. Do not skimp on changing the hoses just because yours look good. Barrier hose is required because the 134 is a smaller molecule and can pass through the rubber on R12 hoses. Good oportunity to do a dress up with AN Hose and fittings

Maybe I should have worded this differently.........
What I should have asked You Folks, is what have you done on a "75 A/C conversion ?"
I have checked with 3 shops, all $200-$250, just vacuum and recharge system to 134a.
Dealer, $245, Flush, change oil and recharge.
I hate to bother you, but don't want to spend $200, then add another $400.
Looking for the correct parts to change B-4 I start this.
Thanks,
Bill

If you do a lot of searching you will find you need new barrier hoses, the original condenser does not work well with 134a, so you will need a new cross flow condenser. Also the old style a6 compressor does not function well with 134a.
I did this conversion in my 73 Camaro and it barely got cool. I flushed it out and installed r12 and it is cold. In my 75 Vette I have all original components and r12 and in Texas heat it works great. Dave
Also, for $20 you can take an open book on line test and get an EPA section 609 certification. Then you can buy all the r12 you want.
