Sunoco now sells 5 gallon containers of leaded 110 octane race fuel. I add that to about 10 gallons of 91 ethanol free in my '70 454 and the difference is amazing.

For you guys with no non-ethanol stations, they make an ethanol treatment you can pick up at walmart or parts house. Not sure how well it works though?
unless your car has been modified it was designed to run on 87. Low compression engine. Octane booster is actually snake oil.

At age 72, I dunno about my gas, it maybe alky free at some points, but the morning coffee makes it a bit more 'corrosive' shall we say.....

I've read that vehicles using 100% ethanol will take a 20% hit in MPG. So for the majority of us that use gas with 10 % ethanol, we're taking a 2% hit in mileage. In other words if you're getting 15 MPG, switching over to ethanol free would be get you 15.3 MPG. Not much of a benefit, except for avoiding possible damage to fuel lines, carbs and fuel tanks.

I have a small station close to me that sells ethanol free premium gas. I think my 69 runs better with it.

I made a spreadsheet showing the resulting octane. Using your values, you are getting 100.5 octane.

I put some cheap gas in at a Valero station and on a short trip in 80 degree weather and it soon started boiling and running bad. I pulled over and watched gas trickle down the primary chambers after the engine was shut off. I surmised that this is happening on a lesser basis all the time hot or cold weather. What concerns me is that the gas is getting mixed into the oil compartment and causing excessive engine wear. I guess converting to a fuel injection system would put an end to this?

I had a perculation problem too. I have a L88 hood so I had room but I swapped out the Edelbrock Performer for an Air Gap performer and put in a 1/2" wood spacer. And made sure my fuel line wasnt touching my engine. And also added a fuel pressure regulator to knock down the pressure to 5 lbs for my edelbrock carb. My problems were solved

We knew it was a bad idea in the 70's and it still is.

Almost ruined my vintage Honda motorcycle .

My new truck gets 4 mile per gallon better with non ethanol gas , has better power.

All my cars run better on pure gas .

The whole deal is public kick in the ***** by politicians and corrupt lobbyist and other powerful interests . Supported by a stupid , dumbed down public .

The final insult is a tax placed on pure gas ....to what penalize the driving public for knowing better , or using the best product , or forcing the average person to buy a inferior product.

I really like the looks of the stock hood and I think I would possibly get a single plane manifold and then cut a hole big enough for the carb and the air filter to sit above the hood. I would think that would work but still trying to think of other options first.

I just checked the Pure-gas.org site that someone linked for stations in my area. Then I did a google maps street view of the location. Look whats filling up right in front.
