Ned Help With Decision on a 1975
Hey guys, i have a few questions.
Me and my wife were both born in 1975 and I have been thinking about trying to find a nice condition original 1975 Vette.
But I have some concerns and I know the 1975 is not a real desirable year for the vettes. I also dont care for the goofy looking front and rear bumpers they used on the 75.
I like the 68-72 vette a lot more than the 75.
But if I do decide to pull the trigger on a 1975, I would be looking for a specific Vette.
#1 1975
#2 Convertible
#3 4 speed
#4 Steel Blue, Silver, or Green. I really want Black but it was not available for 1975.
So my main question is, What is a good price for what I am looking for?
I have only seen a few Corvettes that " fit the bill ".
And the asking prices seemed outrageous and I could buy a nice 68-72 hard top for what they want for a 75, Conv. 4 speed car.
I'm not looking for a trailer queen. I want a driver and as long as the car can be made into a DD with some work, Condition is not that big of a deal.
I just don't want a pieced together pile, or a car that has rust issues.
I know the birdcages are bad about rusting out.
What is the general consensus of what I'm looking for?
I would also concider a hard top if the price was right but really perfer a Conv.
Thanks for the help.

The best advice is to buy the best car you can afford that has the options you desire. You will spend a lot more money and time fixing the shortcomings in a deal with problems
Currently a chrome bumper car, all things being equal, will cost more than a 73-75 rubber bumper. No one can predict the future but I think the 73-75s are way undervalued currently. That may change.
A nice 75 convertible should cost in the 17-25K range depending on condition, colors and options. Some really nice or rare optioned ones more.
Using a 40 year old car as a daily driver will have its challenges so buy the best one you can afford.

I will definatley be giving him a call tomorrow. That is exactly what I am looking for.
When I said a "Daily Driver"..... It will not be a DD, more of a nice day driver, What I meant by that is just the dependability of a DD.
But thank you very much for the lead and help.
Will be looking into it.
I also feel like these cars are somewhat under valued and like anything else the primium, rarer cars will always maintain and / or go up in value.
Thanks again, Joe

Melting Slicks
Nice vert high teens to low 20s. Coupe probably $5k or more cheaper. If you want something original the L82 engine is a nice option to have.
Might be worth checking your local emissions laws before buying a car in case its been modded or you want to mod without registration issues. I believe the 75 did not even have true dual exhaust.

Of the 38xxx 75 Corvettes only 4xxx or so we're convertibles so they are fairly rare. Add in the four speed which numbered about 10xxx and you have a more limited production. Add in the L82 engine of which there were less than 3000 total production and statistically you are talking about Very limited production. Steel Blue was fairly low production also. I'm using xxx in the number as I don't remember exact numbers.

That is a fantastic example of a 75 vert. Very nice.

I'm always partial to a black car. Those Rims, the black body.... and then..... the "pop" of those red seats, really work well.
I love 5-spoke style wheels, a polished aluminum type of finish on a black car. My favorite combination. I see a lot of cars today where the younger crowed just plasti-dips the rims black. It's ok on some cars, but to me, you just can't beat a polished rim on black classic car.

Most car owners have deleted the cat, added true dual exhaust and changed the timing which restores most or all of the power lost. One very nice improvement for 1975 was the HEI ignition deleting points. Much more reliable with a hotter spark.

Using statistical probability there were 74 1975 convertibles with the L82 and a four speed. Buying patterns may impact that number plus or minus but not by a lot. Still there are not many even if that number was doubled. Unfortunately there were no black 1975 cars offered without special order. Yours shows that maybe it should have been a factory color.

Yes I would say it is. Very nice original condition and loaded with AC, tilt, PS, PB, PW, Deluxe Interior. It's a keeper.
I acquired mine about a year ago. Didn't realize how rare these Covertible L82 4speeds are until I started researching it. I know of another one which is white/black.

It also came with map light, dual horns, gymkhana suspension, close ratio 4 speed, heavy duty battery, am/fm stereo, auxiliary hard top, S/B radial w/lettered tires as per original dealer invoice. I added rear window defog and shoulder harnesses. It could be the most heavily optioned 1975 roadster on the planet, even without my 2 added items!!! I have the original wheels, but I just love the YJ8's.
