Info from my 68 VIN
What information can I gather from the VIN on my '68 Coupe? I am curious whether it left St Louis with a BB or SB. Last 5 numbers are 427025.

The 1968 VIN does not tell you anything about the car's engine or options. It will tell you coupe vs convertible and the approximate production date can be figured out by the sequential VIN.

I was able to go to this site and get a copy of my 1978's original dealer invoice. http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/?page=4
It cost $50.00. If they cannot find any documents on your car, they do not charge you. Just checked and they have documents on 1977 and later cars.

427025 consecutive unit number (all 68s had the 4 so you can abbreviate the consecutive unit number to 27025.) #27025 was assembled in August, 1968 in the final month of the model year.
There is no option information in a 68 VIN.
