It's a special interest car to say the least, but it's a museum piece. If you begin to drive it, your $100K will depreciate considerably.

I agree the current bid might be too good to be true.

If it does sell as the buyer I would request they get her back to drive and stop.

So this is getting interesting...

Saturday the car had 87 bids, and the bid price was close to $104,300.

Today the car has 77 bids, and the bid price is $100,300.

Three of the bidders that had bids over $100,000 have had their bids cancelled. Not retracted, cancelled. The buyer can retract a bid; the seller can cancel a bid. The car is still listed as being for sale.

Ebay examples of reasons to cancel a bid are:

Examples of legitimate bid cancellations:
The bidder contacts you to back out of the auction.
You are unable to verify the bidder's identity, after trying all reasonable means of contact.
You want to end your listing early because your item is no longer available for sale. In this case you must cancel all bids on your listing before ending it.

Interesting....

Its hard to believe that those are legit offers. Even if it was a pace car I don't think it would bring that kind of money.

Yeah I had notice the drop in price and bids as well.

I've blocked a few buyers mid-auction. Every so often I'll get a buyer asking questions they have no business asking. Those buyers are nothing but trouble.

Seller has posted a note at the end of the listing that he is cancelling bids that he cannot confirm, and blocking those people from further bidding.

He also stated that a bid is a legally binding contract and that he will prosecute people for fraudulent bidding.

Still at $90,301. I have to laugh at some of the questions asked? No wonder the seller cancelled some of the bids.

I had the same car last year with 199 miles on it that I sold for $25,000. From all the photos the car is the real deal!!!

Ed, I agree this 78 is the real deal and I believe it will be sold for a very big number, most likely around 100k.I remember last year they auctioned a 78 Pace Car with 17 miles on a field covered in dust and dirt for 85k.There are a few very low mile, single digit PaceCars, but not Many SA in the single digits.

The bidding has been interesting, to say the least.

Everyone I cancelled or who dropped out when pressed were placing bids for fun. Maybe they were watching Mecum Indy and wanted to feel what it felt like. I can't say. Suffice to say the few who replied to my "are you real" questions gave some pretty lame replies! Looking into a few of them (when I could), I confirmed that they were in no real position to complete the deal.

Present bidder seems to be happy with the situation, but I suspect we're not done yet. Lots of phone calls and e-mails still coming in. We might have set an eBay record for page views and watchers on a car auction...

Good luck if you're in the mix, otherwise, thanks for looking.

Best,
Chip

read the Q and A didnt see anyone interested just people asking you to get dirty for them
How would they be any different than what they should be if its never been touched which looks believable enough

Time wasters. Someone will pick it up
If anything all the negative stuff may get your car enough attention if you had a "buy it now" price in mind not too far out there bet it would go quick.

Just wondering how many of the last 10 or so bids are real. All of them have not bid on anything except this car for the last 30 days. If some of them get retracted, we will know where the real money lies, and it does say reserve meet.
