Default Change in Emissions Inspection in NJ

In case you didn't catch this, for those of you without QQ plates in NJ, effective 1May no more pipe test every two yrs for our C3s. You get a letter and exemption card in the mail about 6 weeks before current sticker expires.

Cessation of Tailpipe Emission Testing
Beginning May 1, 2016, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has changed the inspection requirements for certain vehicles. Due to the cessation of tailpipe emission testing, the following passenger vehicles now will be exempted from inspection:

Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year 1995 & older with a GVWR 8,500 pounds or less.
Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year 2007 & older with a GVWR 8,501 to 14,000 pounds.
Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year 2013 & older with a GVWR 14,001 pounds or more.

I did see this and am happy about it. The Vette has QQ plates so not a problem but the Factory Five Cobra you can't get the QQ plates. Even though it is registered as a 1965 Trenton is wise to these cars not being mass produced. Therefore it had inspection. Not any more though.

And I thought CA was bad. We dumped tail pipe on 2000 and newer last year.

76-99 still have to be sniffed though for now.

If your car is visibly modified and the person at DMV is aware you could be denied. Haven't heard of it happening but the images on the DMV site shows small mods could be denied.

So the only reason to go QQ now is no renewal fee. Now with regular plates, no emission test and drive it anytime, anywhere.

I wonder how long this will last.
