Default '69 Fender Louver Trim Finish?

Has anyone re-finished the "satin" looking silver finish inside of the louver trims on a '69? Looking to buy a used set, but they need some TLC and I'm not sure if it's a DIY project or if they will have to be professionally re-finished.

The painted areas may have been Argent Silver, same color as rally wheels.

I wasn't aware that those optional louvers had any paint on them. I though the inner areas were just rough cast, then whole part was plated.

I believe they should be silver with the very outer edge chrome/polished.

Hi,
I believe the original TJ2 louver trim was chrome with a painted surface in the recess. Just outer edge of the chrome plating was exposed.
Regards,
Alan

Notice this is the blocked off 4th louver.

correct, most of the after market replacements are all chrome.
I masked off the edges on mine and did them with hyper silver wheel paint.

Would you mind sharing a close up of yours?

Mine were not that bad. when I bought my car 4 years ago I noticed some grease on them, when I tried to wipe it off I realized it was actually black primer the silver paint was starting to chip off a little. I just wiped them down, masked off the edges and a couple of light coats of paint.

Yes, I refinished mine years ago. Like Alan says, the outer edge chrome is exposed and the inner painted silver. I don't know if it's still available, but I used Plasti-kote Body Shop Paint (rattle can) Bright Silver Metal #1001. I found that this matched the GM color exactly.

These look awesome! I'm glad that I pulled the trigger on the louvers. I can't wait to get them and start refinishing them. I love the look of our cars with those inserts!
