I drove the car in the dark for the first time in a few months last night, and found that the right turn signal bulb on the tach won't shut off with the headlights on. Not sure where to start with diagnosing that problem. I'm guessing it's gonna involve me pulling the dash apart though.

If he stays in school maybe someday he'll have 50K to budget for a car as well?

Haha yeah there's definitely a variety of financial situations on this forum

Maybe it's just because I can't imagine having that much money to spend yet, but I can't really see myself ever spending that much on a car even if I could afford it.

when you have the headlights on and use the right turn signal, is there a flashing light in the tach backlight somewhere? It sounds to me like you just plugged a bulb in the wrong socket. Simple fix.

Check to see if you have the proper bulbs for the front turn signals installed. Wrong bulbs will allow power to short and send voltage up the wires to light the dash bulbs. Pull the front bulbs and see if it fixes it then check to be sure they are the right ones.

Don't let solving the little problems get to you......sometimes they seem more overwhelming that rebuilding a differential/etc.

I'm sure this problem will end up being something simple

The light is in the right spot. It functions normally when the right signal is on, but stays on a bit dimmer than usual when the signal is off.

That makes sense, could the rear bulbs do the same thing? I just changed the right rear bulb last weekend. I think that's the only thing that's changed.

If it stays on dimly you might have a bad or weak ground in your tail light. I had that same symptom and the bulb was incorrect.

Double check the seat of the light bulbs. I'm made a mistake with the double filament bulb but not getting them to seat correctly having them work occasionally or ground out.

Fixed the dash light issue a couple hours ago. The front right bulb was bad.

Looks like I'll be doing a 4 speed swap pretty soon. My uncle wants me to assemble the seats for his '70, and in return, he's gonna give me a clutch and flywheel, in addition to the muncie he was already gonna give me because he's trying to slim down his collection of car parts before he moves. I was gonna wait until next year but he wants to help me do it so I can't argue with that.

You will love it. I was originally looking for an auto, but I got my car in a trade and had to take what I could get. Now I love it! The fact that I won't be driving it in hour long stop n go traffic in Houston, which years ago made me hate my stick shift cars, is a factor.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it. Traffic is terrible here but I hardly ever use the freeways around here anymore so I can avoid the worst of it.

The clutch has never bothered me in the 78. The heat, the idiots around me trying to side-swipe me or cut in front of me and slam on the brakes, they bother me a lot more.

Yeah those people are definitely worse than having to sit in traffic with a clutch

I took a break from working on the house today to cut and buff the passenger side front fender and door. I wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit and then used rubbing compound on both panels, and polish on the fender. The photo doesn't really show it but the shine is much better on the fender than it is on the door.

I was a bit disappointed with the color because it looked more like silver than steel cities gray, but it's starting to look like what I expected.

I think you got the color close. Here is oldgto's thread when he painted his. After the cut and buff.
