Default How many horns?

72 --350/200. How many horns should this car have. Only one tone when it's blown and I can only find one horn on the left side inboard of the light. Should there be two horns? Dave

Hi,
1970 used two horns: #9000245 passenger's side low note and #9000246 driver's side high note.
1971 and 1972 had only one horn, #9000245 in 1971 and #9000032 for 1972.
Regards,
Alan

Thank you all. Having only one horn surprises me. Guess GM had to reduce production costs!
I can stop looking for the second horn now. Dave

That's what I thought. It sure would sound better with a two note. Interesting that yours has two. Dave

My 72 came with one, it sounded weak and low tone. I added a high note and now it sounds great. On the highway other cars with the windows up can't hear the one low note.

FWIW,
The 73 only has one "low tone" horn. #9000032. Funny thing happened when I was having the car OPs judged in June the judge said "oh, that doesn't sound right? Couldn't believe still only one on the 73! Especially, with all the new govt. safety stuff coming out at that time.
GM went back to two horns as an option on the 74's. In 74 the car came with one horn #9000049. But an optional horn was available(U05). #9000038
Regards,
Jimmy

If Alan says it only had one it's probably right but what puzzles me is that I put all new wiring harnesses in mine and the new harness came wired for two horns and there were two horns when I bought it . Regardless my car isn't NCRS and the horns sound great together. And with all of the crazy drivers on the road today you need double duty for your horns.

Good idea! It doesn't sound strong alone for sure!

I bought a high note at O'Reilly's for about 11 bucks. I mounted it under the same bolt as the other horn and hooked the short jumper from one to the other. Also at O'Reilly's you can get a small plug on 2to1 y adapter and plug it onto the horn you have and then plug both horn's to it and not have to do any wire splicing.

My mistake, I didn't have room to mount under same bolt, so I used a grill support bolt below it. Here's a picture, the second picture shows the two for one spade adapter to avoid cutting wires.

Great idea! I like the y-adapter advice. I've got an O'Reilly's close by and will check. Thanks! Dave

I'm always hearing about O'Reilly's being a good auto parts store but there are none in my area. Just heard a couple days ago that one is coming to our area .

I don't find it's any better or worse than AutoZone or Advance. They just happen to be closer. They sell a lot of the same brands at all three, and all three price-match the other. I think it comes down to location and employee knowledge and experience.
