Default 79 Rear Bumper Gap

My 79 rear bumper is opening up a gap on the drivers side. Seems very typical of these. Any reason that I couldn't just maybe reach up under and put some type of clamp to close the gap.
Just don't want to crack anything. Didn't know how brittle anything might be.
I figured someone else has dealt with this same issue.
Thanks

I'm just worried that it may crack from being older and fragile.
Hope some one has been thru this already.

Has no one here had this problem and tried to close this gap?

my 76 bumpers just fell apart 2years ago, bought flex fiberglass and very happy now, also repainted the entire car.

When I took the rear spoiler off my 79 (for painting) the gap was sizeable (luckily covered by spoiler later project) I think there are metal stiffeners that hold the plastic together with the bolts. When the stiffeners get weak they tend to "droop" between the bolts.

Also...sometimes posting questions about paint and body...it may be wise to post it here also..
