Default Free Car Battery

I am the original owner of my 1969 Corvette. In 1974 I purchased a Sunoco True Blue Lifetime battery. I just received a check from Sunoco for a replacement battery of my choice. This is the fifth free battery I have received. Sunoco honors their life time warranty.

I put a JCPenny "Lifetime Guarantee" battery in my '70 when the OEM unit expired. JCP replaced it twice and then told me that they were discontinuing the program! Later they discontinued the auto service portion of the store completely.

Default q

I also had the JC Penny "lifetime" battery. Same story, JC Penny did not honor the warranty after they got out of the automotive business. I've had my car 45years and well remember the Sunoco 260. I used three types of gas back in the seventies. I believe the 260 was purple when looking into a full tank, the Amoco premium "white gas" was clear as water and the Hess 101 was reddish orange. All ran great and I don't remember any tappet noise when using the Amoco which was lead free. I use 91-93 octane now and my valves seem fine.

Same story with Sears DieHard batteries although they are not lifetime batteries they do not want to honor even their 3 year batteries because they no longer own the battery section of their auto repair department . They sold out to an independent company that just sells the batteries in the sears auto departments . I recently had a DieHard battery go bad with warranty remaining and they insisted that it tested good and that there was a problem with my corvette charging system so I switched batteries with my Chevy Silverado . Then my Silverado wouldn't hold a charge and the corvette was working fine with my 7 year old Silverado battery . I fought them until I got a new battery from them a couple months ago and with the new battery my corvette has been working fine ever since. If it wasn't for my wife being a retired Sears manager and knowing the system They would have never replaced the battery. I have been a loyal DieHard customer for over 25 years but I will never buy another DieHard battery.
